Lyon, the Soulweaver

Guardian of Life and Death

Lyon is known as the God of Heavenly Rebirth and is the firstborn of the Drakanii Pantheon.
He is considered the god of rebirth, the afterlife, and the stars.   It is said that Lyon was the one to breathe life into the draconic races that first walked the lands of Gailardia, before the mortal races came to be. With the power to control life and death itself, his charge is to guard the eternal peace of the afterlife and grant new life to those destined to serve once more in the realms of the living. Stories often speak of his kindness and mercy, making him well respected across the world and elevating him to supreme deity even outside his most devout followers.

Appearance

Lyon is one of the few deities who've made himself appear before mortals in the past. For only a few seconds did he appear in the skies of a war-torn Cor Landis, his visage that of a wyrm bathed in starlight as lightning sparked from his shimmering scales. This image and his command over the untainted mana of pure souls leaves many depicting him as a wyrm born of mana itself, ever radiant and majestic.   Ancient depictions found in temples erected by the draconic races make him out to be larger than most islands of Cor Landis, his scales a heavenly azure and his eyes burning with starlight. More humble depictions carved by his followers are often based on the storm elven form or an elegant dragonborn, carrying the royal spear of Cor Landis and clad in cloth woven from both sea and sky.

Personality

Despite how Lyon's only been confirmed to appear before mortals once, many claim to have been blessed with his direct guidance throughout history. These people speak of a curious stranger, young and old alike, approaching them and granting them inspiration in their time of need. As such, it's widely believed that Lyon takes a great interest in the well being of his followers, using his avatars to aid those who call out to him.   These encounters, along with stories passed down through the ages, have painted Lyon as an individual who greatly favors the joys of life. He's made out to be quite playful and loving but knows how to be stern and command respect when he needs to. His charge over the afterlife also paints him as a devoted guardian of those who prove themselves truly noble in life, his favor earned by those who share his vision of a world filled with kindness.   However, his believed appearances have not only been in service of guiding his followers but so too to punish those who stood against them. Favoring life above all else, Lyon will also attempt to guide mortals away from paths of war and conflict, wishing not to unleash his fury upon anyone. But should such forces continue to threaten those who cry out for his aid, his judgment is swift and devastating, leaving a final warning before the heavens themselves crash down upon his enemies.

Abilities

Lyon's command over life and death makes him a powerful force to be reckoned with. His very breath is said to bring life to the fallen and heal the wounds of all who basks in its gentle breeze. But so too can his very will rob the wicked of their lives, swiftly dispatching any who would seek to harm him or his followers. His charge over the afterlife also allows him to spin mana into any form he desires, creating new forms of life or shaping souls in their cycle of rebirth.   He's also well known for his mastery over both sea and sky, conjuring terrible storms within mere seconds just as easily as he might still the waves completely. This swiftness extends to his martial prowess as well, as stories speak of his ability to outmaneuver his foes with ease, regardless of his own form. More humble stories speak of his soothing voice and how his music would bring all into a peaceful realm of dreams.

Worship

The vast majority of Lyon's followers are the storm elves of Cor Landis. It's widely believed that their faith is among the strongest in the world due to the tales of his most famous appearance in the past. Others who turn to Lyon for guidance are often healers and select necromancers, seeking to draw power from his command over life and death. Similarly, many offer prayers on their deathbed, hoping to be blessed with a good life upon their rebirth.   His followers often share in his kindness and will seek to avoid conflict as much as possible. But should diplomacy fail them, they'll do their utmost to end it swiftly and painlessly. During times of peace, they love to celebrate even the simplest joys in life, hoping to share their happiness with others and aid those in need. They have a strong disdain of people who choose only to walk a selfish path or live a life of wickedness, but so too are they unafraid to extend their hand and offer a chance to walk a different path.
