Oranok, the Stonefather

The Mountain of Dreams

Oranok is known as the God of Adventurous Tales and is the father of the Orakiah Pantheon.
He is considered the god of adventure, mountains, and earth.   Said to have once been a mere mountain longing for the lands beyond the horizon, Oranok defied his very shape and decided to venture forth, rising from the land in the form of a great titan. His thirst for adventure was so great that once he'd seen every sight to behold, he forged a new realm for himself that would stretch for eternity and shift endlessly to create new lands. Every year he returns to the heart of this plane of adventure, relishing in the tales spun by those who share his passion.

Appearance

No other deity could ever compare to the true size of Oranok. His true form towers all other known creatures, his shape that of a colossal elemental born from the heart of a mountain. His body is so large that mortals could easily loose themselves in the woodlands and caverns that still remain a part of him. Although his face in this shape holds very limited features, he always radiates an overwhelming warmth and joy.   Knowing well enough that this size can be quite limiting, he often takes on a mortal form when exploring or engaging with his followers. Retaining his earthen skin, he clads himself in simple furs and leather clothing, donning the pelts of his favorite animal, the bear. Sometimes he'll even take the form of a great bear, immersing himself in the wilds. Like his true form, he remains a beacon of warmth with his smile often said to be the widest across the realms.

Personality

Oranok is said to be the embodiment of neutral kindness, showing just as much joy in the presence of good as he does towards the wicked. Similarly, he doesn't care for the ranks and status of others, merely wishing for people to carve their own path and live their lives to the fullest. Although he keeps no particular favorites, he has a particular fondness for meeting more unusual kinds of people, such that you rarely encounter in every day society.   His warm heart also makes it incredibly difficult to upset him. Any attempts to stand against him is but another great tale, while loss is simply the end, a new chapter, and the beginning of other stories. His worst known mood is the disappointment of seeing a great party of adventurers come to an end all at once. Other known ways to ruin his joy come from boring and uneventful tales, or people choosing to live stale lives with each day staying mostly the same.   Despite how he appears to take things lightly, he shows great care for those who share his passion. Although he prefers to let events play out without divine interference, he's well known to add his own touch to the adventures of mortals. This might come in the form of aiding those in great danger or throwing even further danger in the path of those who've become complacent. Such intervention is often directed towards newcomers and veterans respectively but his divine touch can occur in the most unlikeliest of moments.

Abilities

Oranok's most well known ability is his gift of shapechanging, able to alter his appearance as he sees fit, despite how his known forms often remain the same. His earthen origins and dominion over the very elemental force also allows him to shape the lands around him with a single thought, whether to create or destroy. His ties to the land itself also grants him a certain mastery over nature and a strong bond with animals.   In part due to his size but also his continuous desire to test himself in the spirit of adventure, he's known to be one of the strongest deities of all. A swing of his club, said to be a branch of the world tree, in his true form can crush mountains and shatter entire regions in a single blow. He'll often favor martial prowess over his magical gifts, enjoying the thrills of direct combat compared to using arcane forces to do your bidding.

Worship

The vast majority of Oranok's followers are fellow adventurers. Due to their frequent travels, it's quite uncommon to come across the truly devout for staying in one place is often frowned upon. The only exceptions are those locked in a thrilling tale spun within the walls of a city, or those who maintain his shrines. Large settlements tend to have a small shrine in Oranok's name, where priests aid those preparing to venture into the wilds. Bards are known to visit and pay homage to these shrines, earning a tale or two of valorous deeds or secrets uncovered.   Most adventurers who seek Oranok's guidance also make it their goal to stand before him at least once in their travels. This is due to the relative simplicity of the task and the honor of having been graced with his presence. But the more devoted followers may postpone such a journey in order to bring with them a tale beyond belief. Those who honor him with a truly captivating story are said to earn his blessing through items of power. The ultimate test is one many have worked towards for ages: To seek him out beyond the confines of his mountain halls, walking beside him as companions and share in his travels.

Notable Relations

Allegiances

  • Ilyse - Few tales are as well known as the first travels of Oranok and Ilyse, the two deities often thought to be inseperable and representing a bond of true friendship.
  • Sarym - Oranok favors the competitive spirit of Sarym, which has lead to many delightful tales of both victory and loss, warming the great titan's heart for storycraft and adventure.
  • Taralon - While not one said to regale about his travels often, Taralon and Oranok are said to cross paths on many occasions and share in the comforts of the campfire's gentle glow.

Oppositions

  • Harakhos - Serving as a beacon towards the deities beneath him, Oranok believes firmly in leadership through respect, and not the dread which Harakhos prefers to sow.
  • Lyriah - Stories speak of a time when Oranok wandered into the realm of Lyriah and swiftly found himself banished for being too curious, after which he would avoid her entirely.
  • Lyn - Oranok has little fondness for those who task others to do their work while they themselves remain in the comforts of their abodes, a prime example of such being Lyn.
