Naremma island
Naremma is the largest island in the known world of Galedon.
Suurten kaupunkien ulkopuolella, etenkin maaseudun köyhempien talojen parissa elämä ei aina ole helppoa. Kaupungissa asuminen tarjoaa paremmat mahdollisuudet päästä kouluun tai muuten hankkia tietoa. Maaseudulla on vain kiertävä koulu, ja opetuksen taso ja aiheet usein vaihtelevia. Kaupungissa kouluun voi päästä alennuksella, jos perheessä on enemmän kuin kolme lasta tai jos perhe on köyhä. Usein kuitenkaan köyhillä kaupunkilaisperheillä ei ole varaa lähettää kuin yksi lapsi kouluun, usein valitsevat lupaavimman.
Maaseudulla rikkoutuvat usein myös monet muut ihanteet. On tavallista, että tiedon puutteen takia lapsia saadaan paljon enemmän kuin 7, ja etenkin köyhien parissa lapset avioliittojen ulkopuolella ovat yleisiä. Rikkaat kaupunkilaiset voivatkin usein sanoa, että maaseudulla lapsia juoksee ympäriinsä kuin elukoita, eikä kukaan tiedä kenen ne ovat tai kuka on niistä vastuussa. Epämääräiset orpokodit ovat yleisiä, ja lapsia saatetaan myydä niistä ilotaloihin tai orjiksi kaukomaille. Myös kaikenmaailman puoskarit myyvät mielellään yrttejä "raskauksien ehkäisyyn", jotka saattavat toimia tai sitten eivät. On myös kunnollisia yrttejä, mutta kaikilla ei ole taitoa erottaa huonoa yrttiä hyvästä.
Maaseudulla kaupunkien tiukka luokkayhteiskunta sekoittuu, ja köyhemmät ja rikkaammat talot saattavat sijaita rinta rinnan. Yhteisöllisyys on voimakkaampaa maaseudulla, mutta hyvin toimeentulevien tilojen vanhemmat kyllä silti katsovat kieroon, jos heidän lapsensa karkaa hulttion matkaan. Silti hyvän talon asukkaat saattavat antaa leipää köyhälle naapurilleen, vaikka naapuri käyttikin leipärahat tavernassa, ja katsoa lasten perään, vaikka samalla heidän mielestään lapsia ei olisi tarvinnut tulla siihen taloon alun alkaenkaan.
Maantiede
The terrain is quite flat, with some forest in the middle. The sea around the island is deep on the north side, on the south side it is more shallow. On the east there is the Gulf of Mener which is relatively shallow and very shielded. The capital Narýa is on the west side of the island, and very close to the mainland. There are a few smaller islands around Naremma too. From north to south the island is about 280 km long, and from east to west it is about 300 km wide. There are no lakes or rivers on the island, but there are several freshwater springs.
Ecosystem Cycles
The fishing season starts in March, and goes on all summer until September. Harvest season starts in August, and goes on until November. Hunting season is in October-November.
A few animals hibernate in the coldest months when temperatures go below 5°
Climate
There are four seasons on the island. The spring starts in February-March time, is usually sunny and warm, with only moderate rains, and in April-May will progress into summer. The early summer is usually quite rainy, and the end of the summer until late September/early October is more dry. The autumn months are rainy, and the winter is usually also rainy, the rain will turn into snow in December and it will melt away in February. The sea around Naremma does not freeze in the winter. Temperatures range from 15°-25° C in the summer to down to -10°C in the winter. Most days it stayd above 0 even in winter thou.
Luonnonvarat
About half of the island is covered in natural forest area. The narýas have a special relationship with trees (see article about birth traditions) and it is strictly managed who can chop down trees and where. Outside the forest areas there are fields where they grow grains, beans, vegetables, fruit and root vegetables. The most common ones are wheat, oats, barley, potatoes, different beans, peas, tomatoes, melons, corn, carrots, beetroots, soy, hemp and flax. It is common to have apple, citruses, plum, peach and pear tree orchards. They keep sheep for the wool and cattle and goats for their milk and meat. Chickens are a common household animal, as are cats and dogs, that are used to herd animals, and cats keep the houses mouse free.
