Mercator's Schism
Mercator’s Schism is not just a river, but a lifeline that has sculpted the contours of Gaul’s civilization and commerce. Originating from the storm runoff and springs of the Firefang Jags, this colossal river snakes its way through vast plains, nourishing lands and facilitating trade before finally pouring its vast contents into the sea. Named after the legendary Mercator Skytracer, whose charts and explorations brought understanding to the vast expanse of the mainland, the river serves as a constant reminder of his legacy.
The city of Skygarde, the heart of the mainland, owes much of its prosperity to the Schism. Located strategically along its banks, the city is in a unique position to facilitate and benefit from the extensive trade that travels its waters. Vessels, ranging from small fishing boats to grand merchant ships, can be seen navigating the river, their sails a testament to the river's significance in Gaul’s economy.
Beyond commerce, the Schism provides sustenance. Its waters irrigate farms, quench the thirst of millions, and support an array of wildlife. Its banks are dotted with villages and towns, each with its own tale of the river's bounty.
In the pages of Gaul's history, many elements have shaped its destiny, but none quite as profoundly as Mercator’s Schism. It is a flowing testament to exploration, survival, and the interconnectedness of life.
