Merr Islands

The Merr Islands1 form a small archipelago within Faal Gulf in the westernmost part of Akral Sea, off the coast of the continents of Emlas to the north and Túlmikkía to the south, and the Isin Isthmus which connects the two to the west.
The islands have long been a source of myths and legends among Orrólans and Enans, in part because of the unique fauna and flora found there, and the fact that none have been able to form permanent settlements there due to a combination of the tumultuous seas, arid climate and lack of easily accessible sources of water, frequent earthquakes and occasional volcanic eruptions, and mostly inedible (or at least unappetizing) plant life. The roaring high seas, seasonal storms and rumblings beneath the earth are believed by many to be caused by angry spirits or deities to deter travelers as well.
Despite this, many have risked their lives to visit Merr Islands to acquire a number of different medicinal plants growing there, as well as rare creatures and goods such as giant tortoises and the sap of dragon's blood trees, respectively.

Fauna & Flora

Birds, reptiles and arthropods dominate the islands' ecosystem, with the only mammals native to them being bats and seals. Notable fauna includes giant tortoises and other large reptiles, chameleons, tarantulas, frigatebirds -including an endemic species with a bright yellow rather than red gular pouch-, several species of finches, sparrows and warblers.
Cacti and other tough vegetation is common throughout the islands, particularly on the drier lowlands, while dragon's blood trees and other larger flora are found up in the mountains, where they receive moisture from occasional drizzles throughout the year.
