Nalóxan Hounds

Nalóxan Hounds1 are, despite the name, foxes domesticated long ago by the Nalóxans of the Nómek Plain in northeastern Emlas and western Laxilþía.
Though dogs are known to the nalóxans as well, the nalóxan hound is far more common due to it being better adapted to life on the plain, especially further north, and for generally needing less food than its canine counterpart.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are generally slightly larger than their wild cousins, but otherwise retain most of their fox-like appearance except for the ears, which are usually floppy, and quite a few have curly tails as well. The fur is quite long and thick, though not nearly as much as that of sanxean wool hounds2.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Nalóxan hounds are far from picky when it comes to food, and are just as likely to consume insects, berries and fish as well as meat. They are generally more skilled at hunting small rodents than a dog would.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Though nalóxans sometimes use nalóxan hounds for hunting, their main purpose is to provide warmth during the night by cuddling against their masters as they sleep. Warriors often wear the furs of hounds -along with fox skins- on their heads, both as protection against the elements and as a status symbol.

Nalóxan foxes are generally more colourful than their wild cousins, with more varied hues of grey and brown, though this usually doesn't hinder them at blending in with their surroundings. Many have irregular spots or splotches as well.
