Ar'Pata Atoll

The Ar'Pata Atoll is a coral and obsidian atoll formation, located in The Vast.

Geography

Comprised of a small but verdant island chain encircled by reefs of coral and obsidian, the Ar'Pata Atoll is in the south central portion of the Vast, situated roughly between Awa and Matahak, around 400 miles east of Rosepua.

Ecosystem

Due to its somewhat isolated nature, the Atoll has developed a series of interdependant connections beween the coral that comprises most of its islands and the organisms that live in communion with that coral, including the Ar'Pata people themselves.

The people of the Ar'Pata Atoll consider themselve stewards of this delicate ecosystem, dedicated to both its management and its protection.

Fauna & Flora

There are dozen of species of plants and animals that are only found on the Atoll--from the Caytooth Leopard to the Ar'Pata Coral itself.

History

Akin more to a city-state than a full fledged state, the Ar'Pata people are a kinship group formed by the dozens of clans that populate the atoll. These clans are overseen by a Regent, which is generally someone appointed from the most powerful clan. Since 1080 AC, that clan has been the Reefshield, and the Regent has been Balgren Reefshield.
The Ar'Pata hold themselves, and thus, their atoll, as distinct from the Drembari Isles. While they enjoy a cordial relationship with most states of the Isles, they are their own people, governed by their own laws, traditions, and expectations.
