Codename: Sleeping Alley, Report the Eleventh

General Summary

We met the Alley Sleepers in the septic tank of irascibility, plotting the best way to get their hands on a prototype hand cannon.   Strangely, our heroes decided to try and resolve this situation without violence. Much discussion and scheming commenced on the best way to do this. Ultimately, it was decided to "ambush" the caravan as it came down from Gattland before it arrived in Belbelder. A suitable location was found and Grex the Indomitable summoned all his courage (and an illusionary dead horse to block the road) and confronted the caravan's leader, one Bearsmasher, a member of The Tulip Host and contracted to the Alerki Ascendency.   Hama vu Farlight made the dusk seem even darker as he descended a fog cloud upon the unwitting caravan members to disguise Grex and Bearsmasher's discussion. The tenor of that discussion was very charming, as Grex cast Charm Person on the unsuspecting goliath and convinced him to break the contract with the Ascendency, sell the cannon to them for 300 gold, and just, like, chill.   This interaction was interrupted by The Mince, another Tulip Host merc, who was equally charmed by Grex. Wow! That was easy! And won't probably have any repercussions! (Just kidding, Bear and Mince knew they were charmed, hours later, and vow revenge).   After delivering the cannon to Mimgee and securing the steady supply of Riding Lizards for the Brass Lamb, it was time for a much needed rest. The gang headed back to their meadery, now known as The Ivory Bee, to recuperate. Many tendays passed. Our heroes spent this downtime in various ways.

Downtime

Svo'Kool spent this time practicing his Savage Attacks fighting technique with Elmurk (when Elm wasn't driving the honey and mead to market), and learning how to gild an acorn with gold for Hama. This took much time (and a lot of gold) but he finally got it done and is now pretty handy with a set of jeweler's tools.   Hama vu Farlight tended to his Dryad Leaf garden, which is becoming abundant, hung out with Trash the baby Giant Snail, gathered spell components (the aforementioned gilded acorn), and built some stables for Garbage and the other lizards, earning some more familiarity with animals and animal handling in the process.   Grex the Indomitable unleashed his inner actor, impersonating folks all over the compound and went--adeptly disguised--back into Riverskint and got a Blur scroll from The Book and Quill. Riverskint, woo boy--looking mighty martial law these days.   Aletha of the Flintclaw decided to go a-wanderin', taking a tour of Skint Parish with only her trusty mount Reptar as her companion. And, of course, the eyeless crows that seem to follow her. She and Reptar grew closer through this sojourn, and she was able to pick up a few magical tricks in the process. She couldn't help feeling that she was being watched--perhaps stalked--by something eerie.   Rieta spent her downtime sailing around the Pimeweld, becoming a more competent handler of water vessels. She also went out into the community surrounding The Ivory Bee to generate goodwill and foster a healthy relationship between the Sleepers, the Lamb, and the people.

Zethergyll

Then Olddom Zethergyll came to visit. Questions were asked and sometimes cryptically answered, especially about the debacle that was Minot's Leap . Overall, though, Zethergyll urged the Sleepers to now exercise their own agency. Get into whatever they think needs doing for the resistance to flourish and the Ascendency to falter.
Before Zethergyll departed, Svo took him aside and told him that he was supposed to kill him. Apparently Svo is somehow involved with a shadowy person/people (organization?) called The Worm who has demanded Zethergyll's death as a way to make right Svo's various debts. Scumbum Svo might have tried his luck in the murder business, but new(ish) Svo'Kool decided to trust his friends and the Lamb. Zethergyll appreciated that and promised Svo that he would look into The Worm. In the meantime, though, it is probably best to keep your head on a swivel, as The Worm doesn't seem to appreciate patience or defiance of its orders.
After Zethergyll took his leave ("Smallcastle" and retinue of guards in tow), the gang decided that maybe some fortifications might help spruce up the compound a bit, so they built two watchtowers and a sturdier gate and got started on what might generously be called a "moat."   Their labor took them another tenday, leaving the current date of the first day of 2nd Void, with our adventurers currently considering what to do next.   And that's where we left it. We'll see what choice they pursue during our next session.
