Riverskint
Defences
The city is entirely enclosed either by stone wall or water.
The walls, recently reinforced by the Alerki Ascendency feature guard houses throughout their run and several defense towers designed to repel invaders.
There are four accessible gates--the Lean Gate in the North, the North Gate in the west, the Old Gate in the northeast, and the Milk Gate in the southeast.
Further, there is a giant chain that can be dragged across the harbor, sealing the Sea Gate from upstream traffic.
Industry & Trade
The docks employ most of Riverskint's workers, and are a key facet of its economic relevance both in Skint Parish and the larger Ascendency empire.
The land around the city is fertile and home to many different types of crops that are exported down the Pimeweld to Nineboons and then to parts unknown.
Its biggest economic relevance is its control over the Pimeweld and access up and down that river. It is difficult to exert dominance over Skint Parish without controlling Riverskint.
Infrastructure
Riverskint has a few notable infrastructure features. There are docks present in three of the districts (The Mauve, Sallow, Saw's Milk) and access to those docks is controlled by the city.
The Pimeweld flows into the city itself, culminating in a deep pool called Ibbor's Bath.
Leanfields features several windmills to handle all the barley and wheat produced by its farmers, and Saw's Milk has several lumberyards to keep up with the demand for wood.
There are two bridges across the Bath, the North Bridge and South Bridge respectively.
There is a large open hole in the middle of Gravick known as the Task. Its objectives are a closely guarded secret among Ascendency elite.
Guilds and Factions
Aside from the Ascendency, Riverskint is also home to the most active and assertive cells of the Brass Lamb resistance.
Erkmek's Few, a renowned mercenary company, is headquartered out of Oldsquare.
There are rumors that a gang of bandits called Bumork's Heavies has a base of operations somewhere in the city.
The Gilded Vial also maintains a presence, concentrated mostly in Gnet's Line.
History
The area around Riverskint has been inhabited since at least 100 AC. The earliest recorded history stems from about 320 AC, so that is commonly thought of as the founding of the city.
Riverskint was the last main bastion of opposition during the Skintish War, mounting a desperate defense against the invading Ascendency army. That defense ultimately proved unsuccessful and the city fell to the empire in 823 AC.
Since that date, it has been two hundred and fifty years of uneasy occupation. Several resistances and rebellions have cropped up over the years, with the Brass Lamb being the most recent. So far, the Ascendency has been able to put all of those down and retain control of the city, and thus, of Skint Parish as a whole.
Geography
The city is on the banks of the Pimeweld and has access to both the water present in the lake itself and in its incursion into the city, known as Ibbor's Bath.
Outside the city, the land is mostly flat, with some softly rolling hills. It is ideal country for farming, and, indeed, that is the occupation of most who dwell outside the city's walls.
Natural Resources
There is plenty of lumbar from the nearby forests that crisscross the Pimeweld.
Leanfields is replete with various crops, mostly of the tuber variety.
Stone and ore are imported via the dock system.
