Sibus Penninsula

Geography

The Peninsula is a large geographic feature that forms the Gulf of Sibus from the Silver Ocean. Temperate forests stand on the eastern edge of the peninsula, giving way to grasslands further west. Dense forests cover the cliffs at the southern tip of the region. Large cliffs dominate most of the eastern shore, with small inlets and beaches dotted along the coast. The rolling hills form the landscape on the western side of the peninsula gradually sloping down to the Gulf Coast. Taverns and farms are found along the main road that snakes through these hills, connecting Divale to the small village of South Point.

Localized Phenomena

Hurricanes and tropical storms often batter the eastern shore of the peninsula in the late summer and fall, making permanent habitation difficult. As a result, the forests on the eastern edge of the peninsula are sparsely populated, save for small Gnomish enclaves, leaving many areas largely undocumented…

Climate

The climate is generally temperate, supporting forests and grasslands. Warm ocean breezes blow from the Silver Ocean onto the Peninsula, with heavy rains supporting lush forests on the coast, and even tropical rainforest in the south. Few major topographical barriers allow rains to continue inland to grassland plains. The region is affected by tropical depressions blowing off the Silver Ocean.

Fauna & Flora

The grasslands of the Peninsula provide ample feeding ground for various grazing animals. The forests of the region are well populated with various woodland creatures. The forests of the eastern shore are primarily comprised of oak and maple trees, which also form stands across the peninsula. Further south, the canopy is formed by towering tropical trees, and scattered White Woods. Tall grasses cover the rolling hills of the mid-peninsula, giving way to a blanketing of wild flowers. Grasses and various coastal greens then cover the dunes of the Gulf Coast, while seabirds and Delphs frequent the lagoons of the Gulf Coast and inlets of the eastern coast.

Natural Resources

The most notable resources to come from this region are timber and wine. Sibus Peninsula Live Oak is prized for its durability and strength. Seasonal timber camps can be found on the edge of the forests, as well as in some inlets along the eastern coast.
Wineries can be found along the Gulf Coast. The quality of these wines can vary greatly, with the highest quality grapes grown along river banks near Divale. Various other beverages of notable quality are also produced in Divale, including mead and beer.

History

Gnomes have inhabited the eastern coasts for more than a thousand years, but human settlement was more recent. While humans and elves have inhabited the area around Divale for hundreds of years, more significant habitation only occurred in the last two centuries with the establishment of South Point as a rest stop for merchants and traders rounding the Peninsula on their way in and out of the Gulf. The Forefathers eventually established a small garrison at South Point, further supporting trade and farming activity along the road from Divale. However, with timber more easily available from the Silver Wood, and better soil found in the Lowlands, the Peninsula became a secondary producer of both.
