Perhaps the most powerful beings to have, and will, ever exist, these winged creatures ruled over Goia for untold millennia. Behemoths in size and intelligence, the eventual fallout of the Ten Thousand Year War would result in humanity's eventual evolution.

History

From what can be accurately translated from the Tabaxian Records, this ancient race held ultimate power over all living beings on primordial Goia. However, this tyranny would eventually be shattered against their destined enemies, the Primordial Giants. What led to this conflict can only be theorized, but even the descendants of the dragons, the Tabaxi, felt it was noteworthy to document the astounding arrogance displayed by the dragons.

Whether it was the insatiable appetite for power, or a diplomatic misunderstanding, the two primordial races eventually went to war, one that would last 10,000 years. While we may never know the true cause, the evidence of the results of this conflict are clearly observable. Folk tales commonly attribute the oceans' creation to the spilled blood from the war, and the split landmasses from the impacts of bodies, of dragon and giant alike, into the earth. Although possible this is true, it is more likely that smaller geographical anomalies were created from these events (Loset Volcano, Crafhe Volcano, Dragon's Mouth Bay).

Biology

Sadly, discovered specimens of dragon skeletons are almost always in an irrecoverable state. It has been found that a dragon's musculoskeletal structure is similar to that of a bird. Hollowed bones, vertebrate structures throughout the wingspan, and extraordinarily exaggerated vertebrae of the neck, give frightening resemblance to many of the avian species still alive on Goia today. However, that is where any similarities end. While common avian species use their hollowed bones to aid in the respiratory process, it is believed dragons held a type of "venom" within these hollowed portions of bone.

As well as the typical skeletal structure, supplementary bones may have lined the rib cage and spine, providing rigidity against the powerful force of flight, as well as functioning as additional storage of venom. This substance is believed to have been used as a defensive measure. In the event of a threat, this venom could be drawn into the bloodstream and projected hundreds of meters from a glottal gland at the roof of the mouth. This action is what gave credence to the myth of dragons capable of "breathing" fire.

Thankfully, we are able to glean such details due to the careful and consistent documentation found within the Tabaxian Records. Such familiarity between species within the texts provide further proof that the progenitors of society were in fact direct descendants of the primordial dragons. Unfortunately, no such documentation has yet been discovered for Primordial Giants or their kin.
