The Demon Isles
"The frozen fires of the Abyss..."
Located north of Golthien and just east of The Ultima Thule (which it is technically considered part of), the Demon Isles are a ring of broken, frozen islands at the outer reaches of the world. Under normal circumstances, they would be notable for little other than their complete resistance to prolonged habitation, however recent rumors have placed the isles in the nightmares of all Gothenkind.
It is said that as a result of the Sundering, most gods entered a deep sleep, ending centuries of direct communication with their subjects. A few lesser gods and demi-powers even perished in the concussive explosion that rocked Mount Celene. However, at least one lesser power allegedly managed to escape. Krytuss, the Lord of Corruption and Decay, though injured, is said to have fled east across the World Sea. Proof of his passage exists, if legend is to be believed, in the form of the Serpent Isles (west of Golthien). The Serpent Isles were once, supposedly a single large landmass, which was decimated by Krytuss as he trampled across the world, looking for a place to recuperate.
Krytuss is said to have finally ended his travels in the (then unnamed) Demon Isles, where even a god may succumb to the frozen wastes. His followers, including the Lentokki, believe him to be frozen under the ice, waiting to be freed once more.
A group of staunch believers have erected a castle in the ice, Coldkeep, located over the site they have deduced to be Krytuss' frozen tomb. They are called The Sanguine Order, and they have begun the slow process of digging through virtually inaccessible ice to facilitate the eventual release of their dark lord. The Sanguine Order takes its name from the conclave of blood mages who led the assault on Celene during The Sundering.
Geography
An icy tundra, unbroken for its entire surface area. The Demon Isles is a hellscape, only not one of flames and heat, but of pure, bone freezing cold of the sort that can drop a man in minutes.
Fauna & Flora
Natural Resources
On the surface, there seems to be essentially nothing in the way of natural resources amongst the isles. However, as giants and dragons make their homes here, it is certain that there are necessities of life, hidden from eye, but accessible to the native beings of the land.
It is even rumored that the Demon Isles weren't always completely iced over, and that it was dark magic that resulted in their current condition. Allegedly below the surface lay signs of ancient civilizations, perfectly preserved and rich in treasure... if only one had access.
