Aetherion
The timeless, and boundless bridge between the mortal and the etherial, this reality serves as a plane of existence for souls between the states of life and death. Being the first incorporeal plane it exists as a constant protection of the physical from the metaphysical and vice versa. It is theorized to be the very “waters” created over the “firmament” of reality in the beginning, and as such, is named the Sea of Spirits to many of religious focus. In this sea is a current, or a river, that has a steady flow ushering the souls of the deceased to Agnoss for the judgement of the Watchers. In the Sea of Spirits, the Aether’s substance churns from the chaotic elements of the Maelstrom of Creation, and the chaos of Kala, the result of these eddies interact with the memories of souls in the rapids of the river of spirits to then produce fleeting simulacra and even demiplanes, dimensions limited within the laws of the Aetherion (Some scholars of great power have recreated the circumstances needed to create one, making the number of them unknown, as its creation is unpredictable.)
The River of Spirits, draws the attention of many evil spirits, and shadow myrkmara, aiming to manipulate them into becoming slaves for their abuse. However, denizens of every etherial plane, especially those who are worshipped by that soul, are called upon to steady the flow of the current for protection of that soul in its transit and from the evil spirits that seek them. Due to the timeless nature of this state of existence, some mortals seek to have permanent existence using the essence of the Aetherion, however this is done with caution as being outside of the river of spirits, and without the protection of divinities (which is what is required to achieve Aetherial infallibility) leaves a soul vulnerable to the many evil spirits who will take the opportunity with either force or subtle manipulation and coercion.
