Severe crimes are tried before the Viscount in Kimberton. Less-severe offenses such as horse-stealing and the like are tried by local shire-reeves. These Reeves are empowered by the Count to administer sentences no more severe than a month's imprisonment.
Moreover, local Reeves are charged with administering justice appropriate to the harm caused. Reeves who abuse their power may be reported to the Visount, who has the right to investigate and unseat a Reeve if he deems them unsuitable.
