Session 26: Into the frey Report

General Summary

Rowdy runs into the empty room and slams downwards, prone, onto the metal floor.  He hears a cackling laugh behind the door and all his metal items pull with furious speed to the ceiling 20' above.  The same happens to the other party members as they make their way to the door.  Maya morphs into her dragon form and helps some members across the room.  WD barges through the door and a portcullis flys upwards from the floor.  He dives forwards into the room with four bearded devils.  A melee ensues as he clashes with the devils.  Maya rips down the portcullis and rams it into the devils, smashing them against the wall.  A Red Abashai and a bearded devil are caught in her paralyzing breath weapon.  WD cuts down a bearded devil and the Abashai while Leofrik summons his spiritual cudgel and pounds on the devils.  In a rage, Maya squeezes the life from the remaining devils, squirting their body out in pieces between the iron bars of the gate.  The remaining devil vanishes away under the grapple of Rowdy, after he took a flying leap and clothes armed it in the neck, then elbowed driven it into the head.
Meanwhile, Spile and Jhoren set off the magical traps on the chests.  Unfortunately for Spile, he was too close and got frost bite from one of the traps.  Inside they find 15,000 GP, a wand, a tome, and a scroll tube with a contract on 300 souls in lemure form.  They join the rest of the party in the other room, bringing the body of Brother Clarence, who was found in the treasure room by Sir Dietrich.  The party found a device that raised a metal wall in the elevator room, revealing a cavern the leads to the Chapel of St Cuthbert under siege by a company of devils.  Jhoren summons an illusory adult dragon and attacks the devils.  WD's Dragon Phalynx armor hums and he releases a dozen spirits of the original Blue Phalynx Dragon Knights, who once occupied the keep they now call home.  The devils fall under the onslaught and the spirit knights post-security at the broken gates to the chapel.
The sounds of a desperate combat echo down a side cavern and the party moves forward to investigate.  They come upon the last two surviving brothers and a sister of St Cuthbert once under command by Leofrik.  They fight desperately against three bone devils and an ice devil.  Leofrik rushes forward with an aura of spiritual cudgels and engages the devils.  Maya and WD rush forward and take down an ice devil in several rounds, then push forward, herding the remaining devils away from the survivors.  In a reckless move, Jhoren calls forward his dragon and spews forth an electrical breath weapon upon the devils and Leofrik, badly injuring the priest. (DM drops a dice into the tension dice pool for that).  A few moments later, the remaining devils vanish as they flee from the two massive dragons, leaving the three clergy free from danger.
