Session 28: The pit fiend merry go round Report

General Summary

The major battle in the sanctuary finally ended. The pit fiend summoned another cornegon to aid in its fight against the intruders. Cpt Spile summoned a lightning cloud and kept barraging the devils with it. Sir Wolf-Dietrich met the foes head-on in a clash of strength on the back of the silver dragon known to them as Maya. After several fireballs, a wall of fire, and deadly melee combat with the devils, most of the team were badly burnt and torn, and only moments away from dying. As the last cornegon was struck dead by Leofric, the black taint covering the holy chapel vanished and the divine spell casters among the party feel a closer connection to their deities.
The giant spider finally destroyed the stone wall holding it back, and it reverted into its true form, a fallen angel. She took flight and assailed sir WD, only to be bested in battle and surrendered. Rowdy mounted her on the ground like a 6th grader beating his victim in the playground and pummeled the "hell" out of her knocking out a tooth or two, not realizing she had surrendered to Sir WD and was under his protection. He attacked her in desperation, as he felt useless during this epic battle, unable to cross the lava to deliver pain to the pit fiend. Leofric lost his temper and charged at her and bashed her brains out in a fit of rage. He feels pain in his soul after committing murder. Sir WD feels a strain of guilt as he did not order Leofric to stop when he had the chance to do so. 2d6's drop into the dice tension pool. At this point, the party realizes Johren had vanished once again. Where did he go this time?
In one last valiant assault, Sir WD chopped into the neck of the general of hell (pit fiend), and Victamcue claimed its soul. As it wailed in protest, its body collapsed into the lava and a sonic boom is heard through the chamber as the lava shifts out of existence. The party finds the chamber known as the Holy of Holies and there the last of the defenders were holding bastion protecting the holy relics of the faith, and the sword of Kas. The party rest as they update the surviving defenders of their success in defeating the pit fiends. Leofric asks Sasha, the acting commander of the forces, for the sword of Kas, delivering it to the LoO. Sir WD receives a revelation that the chapel of St Cuthbert is beginning to plane shift out of Stygia with their success against the pit fiends. A priest, Oriad, suggests they go to the living quarters of the fallen commander of the chapel, to retrieve his personal items as he thinks it can aid them in their cleansing of the evil from the chapel of St Cuthbert.
On their way, they find a pedestal rising to the ceiling, yet a 3 ft red opaque pyramid floats atop, emitting bone-chilling screams.  There were also 4 black obelisks rising to the ceiling, carved with foreign script only known to Leofric.  Cpt Spiles asks if he should destroy the obelisks, and goes elemental on them after getting a nod from Leofric.  Sir WD climbs the pedestal with Leofric to examine the pyramid, he sees a vision of a priest of the chapel being tortured in a black void, with hooks pulling his body apart at the knees, shoulders, even his eyelids.  He screams in agony.  WD finds a hidden button on the pedestal and hits it. A dark portal spits out the priest as he falls unconscious into the arms of Sir WD.
