Session 29: The final strike Report

General Summary

The LoO continue their rescue mission and surprise a remorhaz in a ruined kitchen.  Spile throws a snow ball at it and is surprised when the monstrosity is paralyzed by his spell.  Secretly Jhoren called forth the word of power, but chuckled as Spile claimed the credit.  In a few heartbeats, the creature was cut down, but burned WD from its hot bloody spray as he cut it down.  The heroes rescued a young female acolyte in the room, who was possessed by a devil, she spewed forth a black toxic vomit on the unsuspecting party and was slain by Spile. Leofrick and WD healed her, and brother Orenthal cast the devil out of her.  They found out she was taken from a prison room next door to be "blessed" and she said there were many prisoners alive.  The party decide to rescue the prisoners, then ascend the tower afterwards, pinging the aura of undead to Leofrick and WD.      They charge into the next room to find 17 captives hanging from chains on the ceiling.  A montage of blasphemous images of stained glass forms up into a golem and casts a blinding light upon all who look upon it.  The party destroy the golem, Jhoren saves a female elven fighter, but none other survive.  Spile kills a priest unknowingly by throwing up a wall of lightning in the room.   Knowing there are undead in the tower room, Leofrick turns them as they enter the room.  The party work efficiently like a cooking brigade under direction of a master chef, as they bless with holy water, then kill each undead priest or acolyte of St Cuthbert.  With the release all of the spirits from hell with the mercy kills, the chapel finishes its shift out of Stygia back into Keoland, the spell of Acererak finally broken.   They rush up the stairs and exit into a trap.  An illusion of a mechanical object lures in Jhoren and Rowdy, who investigate.  The trap sprung, the floor slams into the ceiling above, crushing Rowdy's feet, but Jhoren deftly escapes.  A series of rising and falling floors takes shape as the illusion fades.  Quickly thinking, Spile summons a wall of stone to hold the floors steady so they can run through.  With perfect timing, vampire spawn flood the hallway and attack.  Not a match for the power of the divine paladin of Thrasymachus and cleric of St. Cuthbert, WD and Leofric turn and destroy the undead.  Jhoren finished most of them off by bursting forward as a bolt of lightning. Rowdy grabs one by the ankles as she tries to scurry away on the ceiling above, 2 others escape, as the others perish.   Jhoren calls forth the party to ascend the next stairwell, but it is filled with plants and vines.  He cautiously throws a bead of fire into the stairwell igniting some of the plants, and an escaping vampire.  With a dozen heartbeats left before the conjured wall crumbles, the party begins their climb into the plant ridden narrow stone stairwell.
