Duchy of Flinthill
Overview
Officially covering the western Flinty Hills and the hilly part of the Gamboge Forest, the Duchy of Flinthill is effectively little more than a sparsely-populated forest domain, having more in common with the woodsmen of the Gamboge or the gnomes of the Flinty Hills than with the distant rulers of Nyrond. The gnomes of the nearby Flinty Hills may swear formal loyalty to Nyrond, but that does not mean they obey if they don’t feel like it. The elves in the part of the Gamboge under his legal rule are even less willing to do other than what they feel like. The military forces in the Snake Pass and Mistwatch mostly follow their own direction. The Duke can only console himself that most of these are well disposed towards him and will sometimes do as he desires. Besides the sizeable amount of humans, the duchy contains scattered populations of elves, gnomes, dwarves, halflings, and an unknown number of human hillmen. The gnomes mostly mine silver and gems. The dwarves mine silver, iron, and a little lead.
