Burgrave
A Burgrave is an honorific for any Stildanian lesser noble able to secure themselves a castle and enough land to supply it. They are a step above knights and below Grafs, and tend to be the top local authority in rural areas. While knightly parcels shift frequently, Burgravates are the basic system of division that is deemed 'permanent' and fundamentally important.
Burgraves will typically try and keep any fortified structure built by a knight of theirs below the legal threshold of being a castle to prevent any attempts to claim their own Burgrave title.
There are many Burgraves - a single Graf may have a handful of them. They are respected landed nobility, the sort that can easily trample commoners, but they are bit players in the eyes of kings and queens.
