Duchy of Priwidor

The Duchy of Priwidor is a small kingdom on the eastern coast of Pwenlylyn. The nation is sparsely populated with the capital city, Direhall, being the only sizeable settlement in its territory. The rest of the duchy's lands are covered by dense woodland which contain small villages that remain secluded in the thick forests of Pwenlylyn. Keeps and castles dot the borders of Priwidor to defend from the hungry gaze of the larger and far more powerful Kingdom of Talrice. Aeron Pryce, Duke of Priwidor, sits tentatively on the throne awaiting inevitable invasion. The Republic of Queria recently cut off trade with Priwidor due to threats from Talrice, leaving Priwidor in a dire economic outlook.

Structure

The lands of Priwidor see a cultural and economic split between the coast and the interior. The coast is home to Direhall and other ports which receive major commercial attention and are the heart of the Duke's personal lands. The interior is covered in dense woodland and is home to sparse villages and towns which often must sustain themselves and are rarely ever in the Duke's frame of mind. Rather, these rural settlements are taken care of by feudal lords, Counts and Barons, who are also tasked with manning defensive keeps along the borders of the Duchy.

History

The Duchy of Priwidor was formed in 322 OG due to the separation of the Valaris Empire upon the death of Emperor Gwyn Faulkner. The following succession crisis split the empire into several warring states in a period of constant infighting which lasted for over six decades. Supported overseas by the Kich Mepyukk, Duke Idris Pryce rallied a small alliance of counts and barons in the eastern reaches of Pwenlylyn and stood his ground militarily against the watchful gaze of the other successor kingdoms. Trough toil and bloodshed, the Duchy of Priwidor was eventually cemented as an independent state after the Treaty of Idyloch named it among the four independent and legitimate successor kingdoms of the Valaris Empire.   The borders and territory of Priwidor have seen little change since the treaty was signed. The Duchy has remained independent from the affairs of the other successor kingdoms, preferring to instead deal with overseas empires to the East such as the Kich Mepyukk and the Yika Amku. Direhall has become a bustling city of trade and mercantilism, becoming one of the largest trade ports in Pwenlylyn. Querian trade goods make up the bulk of Priwidor's imports, but Talrician threats to the Grand Mayor of Queria forced these agreements to cease, causing an economic recession across the Duchy's fiefs. Restlessness and dissent have begun to spread across the lesser nobles of the outer keeps, many of whom are left to suffer in the wake of the recession due to their location in the Duchy's interior and the general poverty ever rampant in their lands.   Between the growing talk of rebellion and the threat of invasion from Talrice, the position of Priwidor in the world is tentative. With its only remaining allies far overseas and its economy failing, Priwidor is a nation in decline.
