Valaris Empire

The Valaris Empire was a powerful political entity that spanned across most of Pwenlylyn and Fron Aberaelwyd, uniting the Macavurian, Marcean, and Faitilic peoples under the rule of one emperor. The Valaris Empire was the most influential state until its fall in the fourth century OG, having been a cultural and economic hearth in the western reaches of Halth'aire. It had controlled the trade of Xumil in the west and had defeated and conquered Froslak raiders and pirates, taking the continent of Kingour in the process, and had the most advanced mage colleges and arcane facilities of any nation in the western hemisphere. Unfortunately, economic and political tensions stemming from personal interests among nobles and trade guilds led to massive debts and a failing economy. In addition, selfish emperors who valued personal satisfaction and lavish lifestyles furthered the political corruption in the empire and further damaged the already unstable economy. Pointless wars in Dalashiel and the southern regions of Fron Aberaelwyd led to dissent among the empire's armies, seeing the empire's constant need for territorial expansion and warfare as a telltale sign of the government's lack of care for their own people. Thus, nobles throughout the empire began to conspire, planning a rebellion.    Gwyn Faulkner was assassinated and the imperial government was in disarray. The region of Priwidor and the various southern Macavurian dukes banded together with the Marceans to revolt against the imperial government. The imperial forces were powerless against their enemies, who were far more numerous and powerful due to their alliances with kingdoms overseas. Mounting debts and a general lack of care from the imperial government had diminished the imperial army's power, and the constant warfare which it participated in led many within the army to dissent and join with the rebellion instead. However, the imperial remnant managed to flee south into a series of Macavurian duchies which had remained loyal, and they soon mounted a counter offensive into what is now Talrice, taking back the core of the Empire's territory. A stalemate then ensued for nearly six decades in which the various successor kingdoms not only waged war against the imperial remnant, but also each other.
