Zerhun (Zeer-hoon)

Zerhun is a stronghold of the Kingdom of Azadmere and the seat of Crown Prince Khazar Tarazakh. Zerhun is one of Hârn’s most impressive engineering achievements and has long guarded the southern approaches to the kingdom. The impressive barbican dates from 690 BT and is the terminus of The Silver Way, the only road into Azadmere.

Zerhun by Richard Luschek

Zerhun controls the eastern end of the Silver Way, Azadmere’s main connection to the lowland realms, protecting the kingdom's interior and the route to the Khuzan City of Azadmere. Deep in the woods on either side of the trail are overgrown ruins of once-thriving Jarin manors. The abandoned Barony of Axxon was once one of Azadmere’s most fertile farming regions until the fall of Fana in 135TR to Gargun, forcing the dwarves and their human allies, the Jarin, to retreat behind behind the fortresses defenses.

Purpose / Function

Fortress guarding the only entrance by road to the Khuzan Kingdom of Azadmere.  It is also traditionally been the seat of the Crown Princes of Azadmere.

Architecture

Classic Khuzan tongue and groove stonework that appears almost seamless.  It is decorated in classic dwarven geometric art.

Defenses

Zerhun is considered one of the most formidable fortresses on Hârn. The Khuzan stone barbican blocks the entrance to Azadmere. The fortress is built into two sheer cliff faces on either side and is anchored by tall stone towers overlooking the fortress' stone wall. In the wall's center is the great gate, which consists of two heavy steel reinforced doors and portcullises on either end, overlooked by murder holes above. The fortress itself is manned at all times by 80 heavy dwarf infantry and is part of a larger defence network that extends for miles in all directions.
