Zaghreet
Marriage is a sacred communion between two beings, bonding them together in love and unity for the rest of their lives. The marriage custom of "Zaghreet" is practiced mostly by commoner men, but is also practiced by some Yea'haa'weh and Vedda in the more urban areas.
History
It is said that these marriage rituals have been in practice even before the Old Folk arrived to Heimland, originally practiced by the Indagarians before their conversion to the bloody death-cult of Indagar. Although the practice has roots in paganism, certain Kristyans have adopted the rituals as their own.
Execution
The bridegroom takes off every article of the bride's clothing except her shirt; seats her upon a mattress or bed, the head of which is turned towards the direction of his parents' home, placing her so that her back is also turned in that direction; and draws forward, and spreads the lower part of the shirt upon the bed: having done this, he stands at the distance of less than three feet before her, and performs the two prayers in his preferred language, normally Lowtalk and Lowertalk; laying his head and hands, in prostration, upon the part of her shirt that is extended before her lap. He remains with her but a few minutes longer: having satisfied his curiosity by respecting her personal charms, he calls to the women (who generally collect at the door, where they wait in anxious suspense) to raise their cries of joy immediately; and the shrill sounds make known to the persons below and in the neighborhood, and often responded to by other women, spread still further the news, that the man has acknowledged himself satisfied with his bride.
Afterwards, in front of a marble altar, the following song is sung:
As you take each other’s hand at this altar,
We pray that He would be the center of your marriage.
May he fill your hearts with joy, ever after.
And pour his richest blessing on you,
Every single day!
Put your trust in Him and He will always hold you!
Give your hearts to Him and He will never fail you!
With his hands he will hold you!
With His faithfulness, He will always shield you!
As you start your lives together,
May He always be your guide.
He will give your heart’s desire.
And give you eternal life.
Put your trust in Him,
And He will always hold you!
Give your hearts to Him,
And He will never fail you!
With His hands He will hold you,
With His faithfulness, He will always shield you!
Let Him hold you and guide you and shield you!
Let Him hold you and guide you and shield you!
Let Him hold you and guide you and shield you!
Put your trust in Him,
And He will always hold you!
Give your hearts to Him,
And He will never fail you!
With His hands He will hold you,
With His faithfulness, He will always shield you, all your lives!
Full legal marriage commences later.
