Obeliskos tis Nike

Standing tall within the palatial complex of Pyrsos Lukhoros Citadel, The Obelisk of Victory is an ancient marker of a long forgotten victory made by the ancient Lukhoran people over a mysterious foe, likely Sovranese invaders. Discovered in 1782, the monument has been a treasure trove of information, as translators and interpreters look over the writing and symbols that coat each side. While still located within the citadel, there is an ongoing effort to move the obelisk to either Nikopolis, or Sebástopolis.

Alterations

While the obelisk is still in remarkably good shape, the iron cap at the top of the monument had been stripped off at some point in its history, and there are a few pieces of graffiti scratched or painted on the base of the obelisk.

Architecture

Standing nearly 80 feet tall, the obelisk is a large four-sided monument constructed from the local red granite, depicting ancient Lukhoran text and images describing four stages of a victory over an overseas threat. The southern face depicts an initial invasion force dominating local towns, taking slaves, and bringing monsters with them. The eastern Face depicts the construction of the citadel where the monument is housed, implying that its construction was done quickly yet thoroughly, a project bringing many groups together to create an impenetrable fortress. The northern face depicts a battle between the Lukhorans and the invaders, showing the Lukhorans overcoming great adversity in holding off the opponents. Finally, the western face depicts a triumph over the invaders, with many invaders sailing away and many more lying dead in the sand. The obelisk was once capped in a pyramid of iron, though it seems to have been stripped off at some point, possibly smelted for tools or weapons.
