The Taken

Some people are born with the ability to hear the world, to feel the spirits of the earth and the instincts and drives of the creatures around them, some learn such powers and become druids. But those who walk such a path must guard their hearts lest they are claimed by it, at times even ordinary folk who feel the presence of the great spirits may for but a moment feel it’s power and few who do so are ready to withstand it, these people are the taken, they have many names in the north, the Halfvajar, the lost, månefødte. these poor wretches become twisted by the many things they feel and hear, overwhelmed with animalistic instinct and natural drive, the old spirits of the earth twist and weave into their soul, making them deformed creatures of flesh, bone, stone, earth and wood, driven by the instinct of the feelings that overtook them, forever driven in mad desire they are doomed to wander for eternity or until put out of their misery.
In the Ostfjorn where the horrible affliction is most "common" they say the transformation depends on what you witness, or what "Takes" or "Touches" you.

Wolf Touched

Those who witness the wolf are twisted into horrible beasts, driven by the instinct to hunt and feed, to twist others and to form a pack, demented to a fault but still fiercely intelligent. The Wolf Touched represent hunting instincts and pack mentality.

Bear Touched

The Bear touched seek to make dens and nest and gather as much food stuff as they can, seeking to prepare for endless winter they will relentlessly kill and take all resources they can, or feel an intense and utter drive to seek out pain upon which they can test themselves

Raven Touched

The strange Raven touched recluse themselves deep into the woods, were they profane them with unknown rituals to draw forth malicious spirits, in truth little is known about these creatures and their motives are quite unknown.

Stag Touched

The stag touched are creatures of pure lunacy, as unpredictable as they a cruel, wandering the land they are driven by an unamed madness, as if seeking something they will wander the deep woods and at night leave the woods to find what they lack.

Wyld Touched

Those who are touched by the wyld are driven are made a horrible amalgamation of man and nature, as their bodies twist into fleshy trees, ever stuck into the ground, their madding existence plain for all to see, their minds wracked with animalistic instinct yet their bodies remain rooted into the ground.
