MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an ongoing American media franchise and shared universe of historical fiction revolving around the lives and exploits of many famous superheroes, most notably the Defenders. Currently six films have been released, comprising the first phase of the ambitious cinematic project.
The films that have been released so far are: Barricade - May 2, 2008 The Indomitable Queen Bee - June 13, 2008 Barricade 2 - May 7, 2010 Athena - May 6, 2011 Minuteman: The First Defender - July 22, 2011 Marvel's The Defenders - May 4, 2012
There was initially discussion about whether the MCU would tell stories using real-life superheroes, or if it would use fictional superheroes and take on a more fictional narrative direction. In the end, the decision was made to use the names and appearances of real-life superheroes, and to focus the stories on actual events with narrative license to make things more cohesive and appealing.
