Dragons

Dragons (or wyrms) were very powerful and magical creatures. There were several types of dragons, the most common of which were chromatic and metallic, which were evil and good respectively. They were an ancient race. Few species that still exist can claim longer lineage. Dragons were the bane of the creator races of Toril; their line was so old, they had their own realm during the first recorded exploits of the elves. In recent times, the dragons of Toril were nearly all recluses or at the very least deceptive to their true nature, living amongst other species in polymorphed form.

Basic Information

Anatomy

All the true dragons have four legs and two large wings which they use to fly. They also have long tails and necks. True dragons also have their breath weapons which is distinct between dragon breeds.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dragons are born from eggs, which then hatch into wyrmlings. They stay at this size for about 5 years, a which point they have a growth spurt and become large creatrues. This "young" stage of dragons then lasts for the next 95 years where they slowly grow to be huge sized and become adults. However, they continue to grow in size and power. And after 800 years, they become ancient dragons which are gargantuan.

Behaviour

All dragons are intellegent, but some ethnicities are moreso than others. White dragons, while mostly animal-like, still exhibit signs of intellegence and language. Bronze and Green dragons are the most intelligent of dragons, are are capable of masterminding plans and gathering vast amounts of knowledge.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

All true dragons also have darkvision and a small amount of blindsight due to their natural connection to the magic that surrounds them.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

All dragons can speak draconic, their own language they have created from the very beginings of their existence.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

While not unherd of, dragons do occationally comingle with other intelligent species but usually in their disguised state. Most of the time, dragons only have offspring with fellow dragons. But dragons are capable of having offspring with pretty much any other species, due to their magical nature.

Conservation Status
Since the end of the age of dragons, the population of dragons has never really recovered. And after the creation of the Dracorage Mythal, the global population of dragons has been in decline for tens of thousands of years. With current world events, and the last dragon rage having taken place a little over 100 years ago, the dragon population has been mostly stable since. However, they are near a turning point in their existence where their species could be lead to extinction should another 1000 or so dragons be killed.
