Dwarf

iafsew (/iav sɛu/ , person of the earth in Modern Dwarven)   Dwarves are a race of underground-dwelling and hearty people. Thousands of years ago, the dwarves delved deep enough where they reached the ocean floor and created protected air-filled cities away from the interference of the other five races. In the last few centuries, the dwarves have reached back up to the surface to initiate trade and diplomacy. Most dwarves are citizens of Dakurakol.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves resemble short, stocky, broad humans. They have dense bones and a strong musculature system. Their body is especially talented at purging toxins from their bloodstream, which allows them to delve deeply into the earth where air quality is worse.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dwarves are a continuous breeder sentient species. The typical gestation period is about 10 months. A dwarven couple who regularly attempts for a child can expect one child every five to ten years.

Growth Rate & Stages

The dwarves age roughly 2.5 times the rate of humans, including childhood and adulthood.   A typical dwarf could reach the following milestones:
  • Adolescence at year 32
  • Adulthood at year 45
  • Death from old age at year 190

Ecology and Habitats

Dwarves are well-suited to underground and dark environments. They tend to feel exposed when above ground and find enclosure comforting. Many dwarves are also natural swimmers.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves favor fungi-rich, algae-rich, and fermented food diets. Their resilience towards toxins allow them to also eat poisonous fish, which is a delicacy. Dwarves have a long history of fermentation, including beverages. The alchohol produced in fermentation is a wonderful flavor component and usually will not affect a dwarven system as much as it would a human's.
