Thyrina

"To graze the prairies with our ancestors, sleep under the shade of Vyllna Trees, and drink from the silver streams. We forgive you, oh Trickster, for the transgressions against our Mother." -Prayer of the Trickster, Sathyrian Mythos

Thyrina is the continent that resides in the Western and mostly Northern Hemispheres of Hindria. It is bordered by the Silver Expanse to the North, the Timetal Ocean to the East, Pamyria to the South, and the Ryllkren Ocean to the West. Three large islands of Naroc, Gewaem, and Fyyrslan are included geographically. It is the fourth largest continent by area, following Pamyria, Volksaar, and Londuror, and the third largest by population behind Pamyria and Volksaar. Pamyrians and Humans make up the majority of Thyrina's population.

Name

Many believe Thyrina's to be named after the Pamyrian sub-species of Thyr, which claim the continent to be their place of origin. Though commonly known by Thyrina, other cultures titled the continent in association with the vast grasslands and hills that dominate most of the landscape of the continent.

Extent

Although Thyrina is directly connected to Pamyria and the Silver Expanse, the majority of cultures still recognize it as its own continent due to significant natural markers and biomes that border it. The Silver Expanse lines the Northern edge with its unnatural shift to a boreal climate, while the Southern boundary consists of the Vydim Rivers that flow East and West from the Mynos Mountain Range.

Regions

The continent of Thyrina is divided into a multitude of geographical and cultural regions. Culturally, the land is dominated by humans in North and East Thyrina as well as Gewaem Island, while Pamyrians reside in the Southwest and the Naroc and Fyyrslan Islands. Each is then divided into sub-regions varying upon the dominant sub-species, kingdoms, or clans within them.   Geographically, Thyrina is composed of three major regions. These are Northern Thyrina, Central Thyrina, and Southern Thyrina. North Thyrina includes Fyyrslan Island while Central Thyrina incorporates Gewaem and Naroc as well.

Geography

Thyrina dominates the majority of Hindria's Western hemisphere. Being the fourth largest continent by area, its boundaries are delimited by the Silver Expanse in the North and the Vydim Rivers to the South. The Islands of Fyyrslan, Naroc, and Gewaem are also considered part of the continent. Early in Hindria's history, a land bridge connected Gewaem to the Mynos Savannah in Southern Thyrina. Additionally, the Banadon Peninsula is connected through the Silver Expanse on the Eastern coastline of Northern Thyrina.   Within Thyrina, there are four major geographical regions: the Mynos Savannah, which dominates Southern Thyrina and stretches from the Sound of Gewaem to the Ryllkren Ocean; the largest amongst the greater regions being the Centryian Plains, it spans across Central Thyrina and the Ryllkren seaboard; the mountainous center in Northern Thyrina and reaches South to Lake Neryss is known commonly as the Dryykos Mountains; the Argent Plateau is the region residing just beneath the Silver Expanse.

Localized Phenomena

With its close proximity to the Silver Expanse, winters in Thyrina have a unique look. Snowfall is silver in color, though the vibrance of the hue does depend on the distance from the Expanse. Additionally, this causes water and runoff to also have a silvery glow for a couple months after the winter seasons.   In the spring is the awakening of the Wildebears that roam Northern Thyrina. Where these massive beasts rouse from their hibernations, they sharpen their claws and shed off their winter hides on trees, boulders, or anything large and fortified enough to withstand their weight. This has been coined by locals as "Stripping Days" due to the drastic mass of Wildebear fur that then carpets forest floors. Some societies also partake in their own "Stripping Days", recognizing it as an event of renewal and rebirth in to the coming Spring.

Climate

Though Thyrina expands across the Western Hemisphere, it is dominated by a temperate climate. Most of the Northern and Central region has warm and dry summers that turn in to dry winters. Along the coastlines and near the Silver Expanse do winters begin to turn colder with higher precipitation. Average temperatures span from 15 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit and moderate annual precipitation.   Starting in Southern Thyrina, shifts into a dry and steppe-like climates occur. Average precipitation fluctuates between sub-regions such as savannahs, monsoons, and mountainous ecosystems overlap. However, temperatures are often hot and humid throughout the Southern regions.

Fauna & Flora

Notable Thyrina Fauna includes: Bison, Prairie Dogs, Coyotes, Wildebears, Wildebeests, Dragons, Shard Moths, Red-Eyed Snappers   Notable Thryina Flora includes: Tobacco, Hornet Combs, Cotton, Tomato, Bell Bows, Vyllna

Natural Resources

Thyrina, like much of Hindria, is a bountiful land. The vast plains and populous species of beasts allows for hunter-gatherer cultures to thrive. Although some cultures requiring farming societies have settled across the continent, it is often rare to see outside the boundaries of well-protected territories.   Thyrnia's Dryykos Mountain range has the second largest deposit of Shard veins on Hindria, having it become a heavily sought region for varying cultures to police. Notable Minerals in Thyrina also include: Copper, Zinc, Iron, Gold, Mandurian, and Lead.
