Mutation Rate
The mutation rate is the frequency of new mutations in a single gene or organism over time. In Hoomans, the mutation rate is higher compared to humans and has been both an evolutionary advantage and hindrance when adapting to new planets and environments.
Chances of Mutation
The chances of mutation in a Hooman is dependant on several factors:Genetics
Hoomans are more likely to have mutation depending on who their parent/s are. Children of a hooman who has reproduced asexually have an increased chance of mutation, which increases more with the more children the parent has. A mutation is also more likely to occur from to a hooman whose linage consists of hoomans who were born from asexual reproduction, the chances increasing with how many of their ancestors were also produced asexually. On the flip side, the chances of mutation decrease substantially when a hooman is born from two parents.Environment
When Hoomans are moved into a severely different environment (with the condition that it doesn't kill them), the chances of mutations in their offspring increase in an attempt to adapt. An example of this would be a comparison from Reminian Hoomans to Homeworld and Nasgovian Hoomans. Homeworld and Nasgovian Hoomans are almost identical in nature, due to the timeframe that they were apart, and because of the similar environments they live in. Reminian Hoomans have adapted to the harsh and unforgiving environment of Reminia, and have began to develop traits and mutations to survive better.Disease
Some diseases can trigger off rapid mutation in Hoomans, to an unsurvivable level. The most famous case is with the Pink Blight, which causes rapid mutagenic cancer and leads to Hoomans experiencing unnatural developments with their body.Combating unwanted Mutations
Childcare Facilities monitor the offspring of hoomans before they are even fully formed as podlins to check for any possible mutations that could be a future problem. Adults who have had developed conditions or hereditary diseases that are the result of genetics are less likely to be accepted when applying to have children of their own.
