Death Mountain
Death Mountain is the unofficial-but-colloquial name of Mount Darunia. It is a large volcano and one of the most prominent and easily recognizable landmasses in the mountain range it resides in, and thus the mountain range was named after it: Death Mountain Area. It is one of (and the larger of) two volcanoes in the Death Mountain Area, with Eldin Volcano being the other. It is easily distinguishable by a perpetual halo of smoke and ash that forms a ring around the volcanic crater. Although the volcano isn't technically extinct, it hasn't erupted for thousands of years.
The Goron capital city of Darbus is located here, carved into the sides of the volcano.
For millennia, the volcano was known as Death Mountain. A few decades ago, the Goron populace decided that they no longer wanted their home and lands to be associated with such a negative sounding name as "Death Mountain." A name change was proposed by the Goron High Council. Though there were many traditionalist detractors, the resolution passed and Death Mountain was renamed to Mount Darunia, named after the fabled Goron Sage, Darunia. Being the change is relatively recent there are many across the land who forget (or even refuse) to use the new name.
