Sundering Mountains
Geography
This mountain range spans from the northern end of the Heartlands down into the Dragon Scar and out into the Smoking Islands. This streches for 1000 miles cutting off the Alluring Forest from the rest of the continent.
Under the mountains lie the three great Dwarven fortresses: Diamond Fortress, Ruby Fortress, and Emerald Fortress. Spread throughout the underground network of caves also lie the Moon Elf cities.
On the surface of the mountain lie the cities of Kelna and Y'Hohil both are outposts for the Dragontooth Pass. Kelna rests in the Conclave territory while Y'Hohil lies in the Alluring territory. In the mountains south of the Kelna lies the Monastery of Sleeping Locus. Just north of the Dragon Scar lies a dormant volcano known only as The Red Dragon.
Fauna & Flora
On the surface of the Sundering Mountains, are two different ecosystems.
The northern regions are colder. Elk and other cold-weather mammals thrive in these regions. They fall prey to Dire Wolves and Dragons, specifically White and Silver dragons which are the apex predator in these regions. The forests covering the mountains are Northern Hardwoods, containing maples, birches, and several types of evergreens.
To the south are plants and animals better adjusted to hotter temperatures and the surrounding volcanic activity. This includes many types of reptiles and insects. This is where Copper and Red dragons tend to dwell. The arid climate of the Southern Sundering Mountains creates a different variety of plants than the North.
Under the mountain, the lack of sunlight limits the types of vegetation that grow there. Mushrooms and other fungus thrive as the array of creatures that live in the dark caves are its natural food source. These creatures range from the rock burrowing Rockodile, the Tollain worms, and the mushroom Musirian people.
Natural Resources
The primary sources of materials in the Sundering Mountains are the common metals: iron, copper, gold, silver, platinum, nickel, tin, and more.
Throughout the Sundering Mountains, several magical gems and ores can be found. The most common are what are known as Werno Stones, which help tell time without light. The magical metal Cruiron is harvested by the Dwarves and crafted into fine items and weapons. The color changing gems Dath rocks are also common throughout the mountain range.
In pockets found underground are several types of vents. These contain a variety of gases, some harmless and others more deadly. These have been utilized by engineers to power machines or create explosive-like items.
To the north of Rivertan is the sole deposit of natural Magebane Steel.
