The Wind Desert
Geography
East of the Tempis River lays a majority of the Wind Desert. This region is more akin to a sea of sand than a traditional desert. The sands are always shifting from the constant winds, with a barrage of sand storms being quite frequent. West of the Tempis River the land becomes a savannah that eventually leads into the jungles known as The Serpent's Strip. At the southern most point is the city of Southern Spear which lies on a salt water bay. A small lake rests around the mid-point on which rests the city of Quine.
Fauna & Flora
For a majority of the Wind Desert the flora and fauna of the area must rely on the ability to gather rain water, but must also deal with the shifting sands. None of the plants can take root except to the area west of the Tempis River.
Plants have found very unique ways of survival. One plant, the Blight Cacti, floats on the wind with needles that catch air currents. The needles also absorb the water from any creature that it pierces.
Some plants choose to collect rain water like the Water Capsule Plant, which buries its bulb in the sand as its flower opens up to collect water.
The animals have also adapted to the strange climate. Several insects, like the Leechflies, it resembles a mosquito but is much larger. It draws the blood of its victims and lays its larvae in them as a result. Other creatures, like the Sand Shark and Purple Sand Worm, find their home under the sand. Moisture is stored underground as rainwater seeps down.
Natural Resources
A majority of the desert has very few natural resources besides sand. However the regions around the Southern Spear and Quine have much more friendly ground for plants. One of those plants is the Ducatus plant. The sap from these trees can be used to treat woods and metals to become almost frictionless, making the invention of the sand ships in the region viable.
The Southern Spear is far more viable for farming and plant growth as the mixing of saltwater and freshwater in the bay create an estuary that harbors a rich ecosystem. Bay of Spears is home a a wide variety of sea life that is nearly impossible for the rest of Itherion to be able to benefit from since the bay is far more shallow and entrance into the bay is controlled by the Bay of Spears Iron Curtain, which keeps a large number of seaborn threats out of the bay.
