Session 66: A Little Bit More Than War

General Summary

The session began on BranchForth 13, 2597 around mid-afternoon as the party had escaped the razing of Skormp to the relative safety of the now once again alive Bloomhaven. Being mostly ignored by druids who seemed off in their own worlds, at the roots of the Great Tree, the party made some strategic decisions. They began by sending messages back and forth with Advisor Sil'a to safeguard the Absolute Majesty III. While Alena Birch was sending and receiving this, they also came to the conclusion that likely their bank accounts from Skormp were very likely lost.

From Alena to Advisor Sil'a: "We encountered something unexpected. Skormp has been over-run by devils and demons from Hell. I advise you to not continue traveling there."

Sil'a to Alena: "We see the plume of smoke in the distance and gold and red light... Where is the King regrouping our forces to retake the city?"

From Alena to Advisor Sil'a: "The king unfortunately was also a devil and is currently dead. Full retreat, return to Fuon. Crew getting a hefty bonus when we meet again."

Sil'a to Alena: "As ordered from Ambassador Spice, we shall obey."

During this exchange, it was brought up whether someone in Foun was in collusion with the devils and demons. It was generally agreed they were, but they would need to be sniffed out. As the conversation lulled, the party was approached by Gorgeogonolphia, the defacto yet ungrounded current leader of Bloomhaven. When Wren asked who was in charge other than him, he told her she could be leader and went back to speaking with a lady bug. In seeking for "an adult", Wren came to the conclusion that the elders of the tribe had not returned from the blight, though whether they were simply last to return or were dead was unknown. Eventually they did track down someone who wasn't in their own world, a woman watching all of the tribe's children, Penelope. She told them she didn't have a lot of faith in the tribe as-is, without the elders. Wren remained determined however, and decided to call a council of all the people within the village using 16 summoned squirrels and Ariata. Of the 1800 remaining people within Bloomhaven, 1500 showed up to listen to what had to be said. Wren turned things over to Atticus, who launched into an epic speech:

Condensed: Good evening. I wish I could say it was a good evening. Brothers & sisters of the wild, I stand before you not as a fellow humanoid, but as the very essence of nature itself. Our world, your ancient grove, the flowing rivers, are all under siege by a force of unparalleled darkness. Creatures from the Abyss & Hells seek to corrupt, starting with Skormp. You are shepherds of life, you must speak for life and nature. It is your duty to stand against darkness. You fight for the songbirds at dawn. Who is with me to push them back to the abyss?
With this rousing speech, he managed to get 1257 of the druids to volunteer with tasks like Food, Water, Logistics, Healing, & Communications in the war to come. With the people rally'd (for making goodberries and providing logistical support), the party took up residence for the night in Zygma - Deceased's former home. As always, Atticus stayed awake at night, working on his distribution of the druids for the war to come:
  Atticus' Battle Plans:
  • 1. Healing and Medical Support: 300 druids
  • 2. Logistics and Supply Chain: 200 druids
  • 3. Reconnaissance and Intelligence: 150 druids
  • 4. Environmental and Battlefield Control: 150 druids
  • 5. Summoning and Reinforcement: 150 druids
  • 6. Mental Health and Morale Support: 100 druids
  • 7. Engineering and Infrastructure: 100 druids
  • 8. Communication and Coordination: 80 druids
  • 9. Environmental Preservation and Cleanup: 77 druids

  •   While he was working on these, the rest of the party awoke collectively in a dream. They found themselves on a crystal sea of blue glass, moving like waves but hard like crystal. Avatars of the two deities (Artemis and Silvanus) were expressed in ferocious pillars of lightning and fire respectively. They spoke with a single voice that morphed between their two as it went slowly through its sentences. They gave guidance to the party that something far worse than an invasion of demons and devils was happening. Even before the banishing of the deities from the mortal plane, two of the most powerful and destructive of the gods were bound from it using the blood of mortals as chains. Mephistopheles and Dark Prince Grazā€™zt are held by a triple weave of cord, of which one strand is now broken with the razing of Skormp and killing of its populace. Should another of the two great bastions of civilization fall, should another of the great concentrations of life wink out, the bonds will be loosed and they will be able to return to the mortal plane. The cities must be defended, but even more, the two gods must be unmade. This can only occur upon the Altar of the Titans, a terrible device. Reconstruct it, tune it, and then use it to remove their power. They will try to kill you for this act of disobedience, they already know your names, your faces. You must hurry in earnest to save all that there is. Start by finding a way to locate the pieces. It will take more knowledge than any mortal has, but you should know the entity through whom such knowledge might be stored...
Upon waking, Kale shared an exact recollection with Atticus. The party then began to plan more. Knowing the great bastions of civilization to be Ji-na and Foun, they decided those should be priorities for defense. Cesantar Spice was sent to Ji-na with Tork's wand of polymorph and Muninn as both a canary in a coal mine and an information transfer. At the same time, the party would eventually find their way back to Foun. Before they did this, Atticus dumped the spell in his ring of spell storing and had Alena Birch refresh it with a sending spell. He then sent a message to the headmaster of Lorehold College Velomatus and received a reply stating Atticus should stop in for a chat next time he was in the area. It was then decided by the party this should be their next direction of travel via cloud transformation (a la Kale) after first transporting to The Violent Tips.
Before going off however, Rodan Spice sought out a druid who could speak to chipmunks. He stated he was a speaker for the chipmunks, and at Rodan Spice's behest, agreed to evidently foment a violent revolution within chipmunk society, ensuring blood was spilled, to rally the chipmunks to the cause of Joint Operations LLC. In exchange, Rodan Spice promised to replace all the squirrels in the Fisk Empire with chipmunks. With the agreement settled, the chipmunk leading druid ran off into the forest, looking very much like a chipmunk in the process.
With this interaction completed, the party transported via tree to The Violent Tips where the session ended in the morning of BranchingForth 14, 2597 in the chill of the wind.
