Brethren Court

The Brethren Court, also known as the Pirate Brethren, the Brethren of the Cove, the Order of the Brethren, the Pirate Conclave, or the Pirate Council is a loose confederation of pirates active in the seas of Irion, mostly in the Cerulean Sea. Made up of the great Pirate Lords, the Brethren Court is the governing body of pirates. These rogues and scoundrels are the best of the best or depending on your view of things, the worst of the worst.   In keeping with their heritage, the Brethren Court is governed by the Code, which favors legislative decision-making, hierarchical command authority, individual rights, and equitable division of revenues. Entry to this club requires one of nine pieces of eight, various small trinkets used as the Court is, by and large, completely broke. Each captain, or successor, holds this item close at all times since it provides entry to this mighty exclusive group.   Known Members:
Silas "Cutthroat" Langston

Structure

Made up of the great Pirate Lords, the Brethren Court is the governing body of all pirates, aka the Brethren. The Court is led by the Pirate King, chosen by popular vote by the nine Pirate Lords, each lord hailing from a different region spread across the four corners of the world. This system of election is known to be flawed, as the pirates commonly vote for themselves, making a decision difficult. The title is non-gender specific.   Pirate Lords are required to each carry a piece of eight, signifying their status as a member of the Brethren Court. It was initially suggested that the Pirate Lords carry actual silver coins, though the pirates, finding themselves short on money, opted for holding various items and trinkets that would be instantly recognizable and linked to the individual Lord.   Meetings of the Brethren Court are convened by means of a "call" intended to draw all nine Lords to a single location. This call takes the form of a sea shanty, known to all pirates, called Hoist the Colors
