Little is known of these strange entities of Chult, other than lost legends about nine Gods that took the form of many animals native to the island. Some individuals wise in the lore of Chult, such as
Eku, know a little more, and scattered records do exist for those who seek them. Some of these entities have entered into other customs, religions and peoples, though they may not know the true origins.
The Trickster's Hall
Within this hidden maze of
Ubtao under the
M'Bala Palace Grounds was a hallway depicting fragments of the legend of the Trickster Gods.
The first part depicted
Obo'laka the Zorbo creating a stew for Ubtao. Ubtao however spat the stew out after
I'jin the Almiraj spoiled it.
The second showed
Shagambi the Kamadan crafting a spear, which is stolen by another,
Nangnang the
Grung. Shagambi then chases Nangnang.
The third features
Papazotl the Eblis sending a bullfrog to speak with Ubtao, but the frog tries to wrestle him instead. Ubtao was amused, and he gave the frog tentacles and strength, transforming it into a Froghemoth, the form of
Kubazan.
The fourth shows
Wongo the Su-Monster stealing water from Ubtao. He hides it in the home of
Moa the Jaculi, who tells Ubtao the truth.
The final part depicts sunlight reflecting off of the shell of
Unkh the flail snail, which blinds Ubtao.
