M'Bala Palace Grounds
Once the epicentre of the great city of M'Bala, these now low ruins match the rest of the plateau - abandoned and desolate. Some meager walls and pillars still stand, showing the foundations of what once would have been the palace. Within the courtyard, the proud figure of Ubtao still stands tall, the only unbroken statue to be found.
Below this statue, was an ancient chamber built by the original settlers of M'Bala, a shrine to Ubtao, and a warning of what happens to those who turned against him. Pictograms and carved writings spoke of the fall of Omu, as well as the strange Trickster Gods who had taken Ubtao's place. The shrine however had crumbled in places, succumbing to what sparse vegetation existed above, roots and brambles intruding, along with a few creatures making the dungeon their den. Some of the original traps, puzzles and secret doors however still functioned.
Recent Events
The Sexiles were led to this location by a dream-vision from Eku, who followed the chambers until encountering a celestial creature claiming to be the guardian of this place. She was a large leonine creature, clad in golden gem encrusted armour, bright wings, and blue skin, with a humanoid female face, at once beautiful and regal. She offered the group a question, the answer to which would allow them to progress into the central area. Why did Ubtao leave these lands? Much of the walls depicting the tale were lost to overgrowth and collapse, but through the power of the Sphinx, the group traveled into the past, during it's construction, and into the far future, revealing areas inaccessible in the present and incomplete in the past. The future also showed a bleak outcome for the Island, and possibly the wider world. The Sexiles found the answer, and battled against a fearsome Froghemoth, though the original treasure of the place had been taken by another group seemingly working for Ifan Talro'a, but betrayed by a member, Smoking Mirror. The group instead were permitted to return to the past, where the artifact was still held, the Mask of Ubtao.
