Scorla was what most would have considered mortally wounded whilst on guard duty. An arrow through the neck.
After the battle his body was discovered and, to everyone's surprise, he was still alive. After a few more near death moments, he decided life as a roving reporter/scribe cannot be any more dangerous than soldiering.
