01 - Eiyudi Cultural Society

A FACTION OF AN ORGANIZATION BUILT AROUND BELIEF

These old world nationalists believe the Eiyudi people should be working towards overcoming the Storm and reclaiming their homeland.

Originally established to help preserve the remaining history of the Eiyudi and safeguard their future, the Captain established the Cultural Society (C.S.) to ensure that while he was making sure that his crew had food and shelter, the future generation of Eiyudi would have a better life than that of refugees and shipwrecked survivors.

Over the generations the population has grown and the structure of the leadership changed, especially for those living in proximity to Portrood Town. Each leader of the Cultural Society has had slightly different priorities and the overall goal of this branch of the leadership has lost some of its influence over time. The longer the Eiyudi live in realative peace and seclusion the less interested in the outside world they become. This includes returning to their ancestral homeland despite thier attempts to influence the general population.

In 4106NC (29 years ago) a young and inexperienced new leader was chosen by the Captain and the Town Council to bring in a fresh point-of-view regarding some of the long-standing problems facing their people and the decline of what were percieved as 'old fashioned' Eiyudi values and customs.
One of the largest problems with many ancient practices is that they're out-dated and no longer function efficiently to serve their original purpose. Trying to preserve their ancient culture was hampering their survival - the needs of twenty thousand people surviving on an underground coastline are vastly different than those of a culturally advanced society with centuries of development and progress. With this in mind, *insert current leader name* petitioned the Town Council to allow him to recruit and train a small group of people in old world traditions that were no longer of practical use to the Eiyudi due to technological or ecological differences in the needs of the people.
Thanks to this, many traditions such as weaving and woodwork that had been replaced with abundant local materials, such as the Horned Crab shells and kelp, have seen a massive surge in popularity. Seen now as art rather than tools for survival. This in combination with the arcane properties being exploited with the durability enhancing shell sheath techniques have helped bring more colour and style into their lives and remind folks of not only their use but of the beautiful art and society they once belonged to.
