Ryad is a dark and dangerous district in the heart of
Kowloon, a place where only the most daring and experienced individuals venture. Those who live there are hardened, ruthless, and do not shy away from acts of extreme violence. Here, bloodlust is allowed to be freely expressed without outside interference. Murder and mayhem are common occurrences, and the streets are ruled by those with the power to kill without remorse.
The district is notorious for its monsters — creatures that have been shunned by society and are forced to take refuge in the shadowy corners of Ryad. These creatures are free to hunt and be hunted, and their savage instincts are on full display in this lawless land. It is not uncommon to hear the sounds of fierce battles and the screams of agony echoing through the streets.
Despite the chaos and danger, there is one rule that even the most ruthless of Ryad's inhabitants respect: never touch someone wearing a particular gold pin. This pin is a symbol of safe passage through Ryad and is given only to those who have earned the trust of
Yura Szczepański, the enigmatic overseer of the district. Those who violate this rule face the wrath of Yura and his loyal followers, a fate that is not for the faint of heart.
UPDATE: With the capture of Yura and his current hostage status, Ryad has somewhat fallen apart. Though it was once a place for those with unusual appetites to feast and hunt, Downtown Kowloon itself is dangerous enough that it is implied that the entire city could be seen as Ryad-lite. No longer is there one place to hunt, and Ryad has fully been picked clean by various landlords and business, hoping to cater to that particular clientele.
However, the spirit of Yura's intention remains, and Ryad's notoriety has led it to become a district within Kowloon, where those who have unusual appetites or urges can find what they're looking for — for a price. Instead of hunting down your prey, the proprietors of Ryad's new businesses now sell you the food you're looking for, in the form of living bodies or victims, of course. Where they get them is anyone's guess, but the bodies simply seem to keep flowing, no matter how many people consume.
