Tauguan (Tawg-Ahn)

Tauguan is the home of Centaurs and Golomas. The land is relatively dry thanks to the rain-shadow cast by the Faeguard Mountains and the south is mostly savannah and grasslands with a few forests. However, the northern half of the country is very rocky and hilly, getting steeper the further north one goes.

Structure

Most Centaurs in Tauguan live in large tribes of up to 500 individuals, which consist of somewhere between 10 and 25 family groups. From each familial group, one Centaur - usually an elder woman - is chosen to be a representative for their family, and together these representatives make up a small council, who advise and discuss with the tribe's chief. These tribes will travel from town to town along a traditional migration route, moving on every couple of months. Tribes of Goloma are usually considerably smaller, usually having around 200 individuals. Like the Centaurs , the Goloma tribes are lead by an elder, however, unlike Centaurs they do not migrate, and will usually be the only permanent residents of any given town. The elder Goloma essentially becomes a mayor-like figure, and is in charge of looking out for not only their tribe, but all the inhabitance of the town. Often times the Goloma elder will request that particularly brave members of Centaur tribes remain in town until their tribe returns once again, these Centaurs will often hold positions such as guardsmen (mostly high-ranking positions) and likewise, sometimes Centaur cheifs will request a small group of Goloma to accompany their tribe on the migration, as Goloma, despite their fearful nature, make for excellent scouts and lookouts. It also helps to ensure the genetic diversity of Goloma tribes who might otherwise be too fearful to travel alone.   For the most part, the individual tribes are free to set their own laws and govern themselves as they see fit, and for the most part, the migrating Centaur tribes and stationary Goloma tribes can usually agree on how to behave and work together. But for matters that involve all the tribes, there is The Grand Council. The grand council is made up of a representative from every tribe, consisting of 67 members and is lead by a Centaur named The Eternal One. There are also 5 advisors on the council from the surrounding nations whose job is to primarily speak for citizens of their nations who may be living in Tauguan, and to ensure none of the decisions made by the council would interfere with any pre-established agreements made between the kingdoms. The council is called regularly once every 10 years but can be called early if needed in times of emergency. They are also called to meet on rare occasions to sort out major disputes between tribes.

Demography and Population

The fast majority of Taugians are Centaurs, however Tauguan is also home to Keyrae's largest number of Goloma, who make up the second-largest population in the country. The Centaurs will often migrate and move from location to location so as to not overwhelm the natural environment, and the Goloma communities will usually act as the permeant residents in the towns that dot the migration routes.   There is also a significant number of Merfolk in the country's southern cities, thanks to several Aquilean cities located in Tauguan's coastal reefs. It is also not uncommon to see Drakuri, Kobolds, MechanonsLizardfolk and Gripli in the towns close to the boarder, but Centaurs are generally distrustful of other races, and will "encourage" other races to move on from the more inland settlements. Partially due to their insular and distrusting nature but also they discourage anyone (with the exception of the Goloma) including their own kind from staying in one place too long as they worry having too many permanent residents will hurt the land.

Most Taugians prefer bartering, and therefore in some parts of the country, especially towards the north, money is mostly worthless. In the south however, some merchants will accept Aquilean currency, and in the east, some merchants will accept the Common Currency (Copper, Silver, Gold and Platinum).
