Leofrick Chaucer is the leader of the Venatori. As a traveling merchant, he witnessed the release of Shabol and the subsequent
Calamity of Tirish Myr. He has since dedicated his life to fighting demons on the Material Plane.
History
Early Life
Born in Davenport, Leofrick grew up in a modest home on the outskirts of the city. As soon as he could, he joined the Ilyrian military, serving in a militia supporting Trelios along the Thyrian border. Slowly growing disenchanted with army life, Leofrick left the army after ten years and became a traveling merchant. Primarily selling soap and other household goods, he traveled from Calydon to Myrefall and back. Over the years Leofrick became prosperous, buying a nice home for him and his wife in Little Cresent neighborhood of Calydon.
Lorcan's Expedition
On his final journey to Myrefall before retirement, Leofrick befriended a group of adventurers hired by Duke Lorcan to assist him on an archaelogical expedition. They convinced him to go on one last adventure assisting the duke. This ended in disaster when the expedition released Shabol into the world, directly leading to the Calmity where tens of thousands died. Horrified by what happened, Leofrick and the surviving expedition members dedicated themselves to undoing what had happened.
Since the Calamity
Since 1434, Leofrick has worked tirelessly to create a fighting force capable of taking down demons. Growing from four members to hundreds, the Venatori have proved extremely effective at finding and killing demons. As a side effect of releasing so many demons into the Material Plane, the number of tieflings born in Ilyria has also increased. Often abandoned, Leofrick and his wife have turned their home into an orphange, rescuing these children and giving them a proper education.
