Calamity of Tirish Myr

The calamity was the final battle in the siege of Tirish Myr⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣. Led by the Duke Lorcan, Ilyrian⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ forces were able to break into the city, eventually routing the Tirish Myrians⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ who were forced to flee. The city henceforth was abandoned, with the Tirish Myrians suffering heavy casualties.

The Conflict

Prelude

For over seventy years, human forces have besieged Tirish Myr⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣. The sides were largely in a stalemate until 1434, when Duke Lorcan of Coltherstone, leader of the local Ilyrian⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ force, led a frontal assault on the settlement.

The Engagement

The exact nature of what happened during the Calamity is hotly debated. Surviving Tirish Myrians⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ claim the humans consorted with demons, forming an evil alliance with Shabol⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣. This however is mostly ignored among Ilyrian⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ circles, who cite the bravery and courageousness of the Ilyrian⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ people in capturing Tirish Myr⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣.   Tirish Myrian View
The wholesale slaughter of the Tirish population was used to summon hundreds of fiends from the Seven Hells⁣⁣⁣⁣. These fiends and demons worked with the Ilyrians⁣⁣⁣⁣, butchering the local populace. A pocket of resistance emerged around the Memorial Hall, where the remaining Tirish military fortified against attack. With the assistance of some defectors, the Tirish used ballistae to defend against aerial assaults while holding a small bottleneck across a bridge. Hundreds died, but the Tirish held out while digging an escape route out of the mountain. The survivors then fled, abandoning Tirish Myr⁣⁣⁣⁣ and their ancestors to the invaders.   Ilyrian View
The Ilyrian⁣⁣⁣ forces, led by Duke Lorcan, bravely assaulted the mountain head-on. With only their strong will, the mountain was captured. While some civilians died in the fighting, by and large only the Tirish military were killed in combat. The remainder were graciously allowed to leave human territory in an act of mercy. Most Ilyrians⁣⁣⁣ believe the claims that tens of thousands died are hyperbole and propaganda. However, the veterans of the battle are rather tight-lipped, saying nothing.

Outcome

The Calamity left Tirish Myr⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ in ruins. Nearly two-thirds of the dwarven population died during the conflict, leaving the remnants shattered. The survivors were forced out, having to try and find a new home.   As news of the fall of Tirish Myr spread south, the people of Ilyria⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and Trelios⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ were jubilant, celebrating the recapture of what they viewed as rightful human territory. Calls for Lorcan, leader of the Ilyrian⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ forces, to become the king of Ilyria⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ spread like wildfire in the weeks after.
