Schloss Gletscher

In the Schwarzrime Mountains, there is a string of settlements, fairly young compared to the great city states and kingdoms of the South. These Byrig (Burg singular), or forts, number in the dozens and vary in size. The largest one is at the foot of a great glacier at the terminus of a fjord. The name of the fiefdom's seat, and the castle town itself, is known as Schloss Gletscher. The town around the castle is about 2,000 strong at the last counting, young and old. It is a trade hub for those who want to walk between worlds - the main street is named The Gallery, and continues into the glacierside and down into the earth. Schloss Gletscher has a small lake harbor tucked between the cliffs and the lake it sits beside pours into a river wide enough for boats to travel down. The most prevalent race in this town is humans, but many different types of people find themselves at home here. It is regarded as relatively safe within the walls, as the ruling council represents many interests from abroad and ensures a sanctuary for trade to prosper. The great house that looms over this city is known as Gletscherborg House. The surrounding countryside is known as Gletscherbury.

Demographics

Dominantly human, with only one non-human on the council, a Dwarf, the second most common race in Schloss Gletscher. Orcish and goblinoid creatures as well as some of the slimier denizens of the Underlands share quarters at the ever expanding edge of the Gallery, displaced by ongoing gentrification and development, but not allowed to own property in the city proper.

Government

A mercantile council ruled by electors and nobles, and even a free merchant that simply bought their way to power. Taxes are steep on any business not afforded generous exceptions granted by the council, usually to their own enterprises or those of close allies. Crimes of theft and violence are not tolerated within the city walls, and the guard has routinely engaged in investigations and remanding criminals into custody for trial and often summary execution if the offense is sufficiently disruptive.
