The Mother, Goddess of Life and the Harvest

The Mother is a diety whose domain encompases all life. She is the source of all life on Kindevion, having assisted the other gods in the creation of the Five Divine Races during Kindevion's genesis. She is also directly responsible for the Elves and considers them to be her children. While she is included within the Ring of Divinity, another religon, the Church of the Mother, also claims her as their sole patron diety. The Mother is also the creator of the Spirit Oak, from which most elves are born.

Life Creation

The Mother is capable of creating life from nothing, which she can do with the wave of a hand. All of Kindevion's species can be described as her "children," with some being her direct spawn, such as Elves, plants, and most wild animals, while others were created jointly with other gods and godesses. For example, the Changeling race was the joint creation of the Mother and the Traveler.

The Mother is motivated by the desire to create life and allow it to grow freely. She holds freedom as her greatest value, allowing her "children" to make decisions for themselves rather than do things for them. While this can be a positive value, it often leads to the Mother's innaction in conflicts between her creations. She has been quoted as saying "It is not the place of the gardener to stop the growth of a tree, even when it's shadow kills the lillies."

The Mother is the sister of The Raven Queen, and the two have a complicated history. While the Mother creates life, her sister is responsible for where the souls of life come from and where they go when they expire. The Mother resents her sister and sees her work as an interference.
