Belethor Windward

Belethor Windward is an old friend of Elias Talltide, a member of the Din'Lux City Council and a former ambassador from the Berian Empire. When Belethor was young, he squired for Elias and the two of them became close. When Belethor's family was lost to a plague, the Talltide household made a place for him. Since then, he's proven himself to be a capable leader and talented fighter and has remained at Elias's side.
When the Starless Nights returned, Elias and Belethor were both safe within the city walls, but the Talltide family, back in the Berian Empire, were presumed lost. Elias chose Belethor to join the First Expedition in the hopes that he might discover the fate of those left out in the Darkness, including his family.
Personality
Belethor is a polite and somewhat reserved people pleaser. He has lived his life to serve Elias and the cause of the Berian Empire. Because of this, he often puts the needs of those he serves above his own and never questions orders.
Throughout Belethor's lifelong service to Elias, he has been unfailingly loyal. As a member of the Talltide family, Elias has always had everything handed to him--wealth, status, connections. Belethor, on the other hand, has had to claw his way up the ranks from rags to riches. Once they relocated to Din'Lux on assignment, Belethor began to wonder if Elias was the still the same man. He was changing from the honest nobleman Belethor had known him to be into a stranger full of cunning and manipulation.
More than once, Belethor came upon Elias as he was entertaining shady individuals--exchanging both money and laughs. Though Belethor never confronted Elias, the easiness and trust between them seemed to dissipate. And when it was time to select the members of the First Expedition, Elias didn't hesitate to put forth Belethor's name.
Without the faith in Elias that had kept his loyalty so steadfast, Belethor began to question his own identity. He began to wonder who and what he was without the Talltide family.
The First Expedition
As a human from the Berian Empire, Belethor is neutral when it comes to the conflicts leftover from the war. He tries to be the rope that holds the First Expedition together. Though he doesn't expect to survive, he knows that death is certain if they don't stick together. He wants to survive this expedition, to get out of here alive and live life as himself instead of in the shadow of someone else.
