History recorded since the founding of Travance
A record of the incredible and heroic events that have taken place since the founding of the Barony of Travance.
Jonathan Travance led the first ever caravans across the Great Rift to explore the other side. The heroes who ventured across came and settled the land and founded the town of Travance.
Travance has gone through many, many rules during its time in existence. Below is a loose accounting of whom rules and for how long.
The Duke of Kormyre Loric De'More had come to Travance to rule it for about a year. Arriana the Dark Queen of Evernight marched the might of her armies to Travance to squash the troublesome meddling of its heroes. The Duke knew she was coming and met intercepted her army. Alone he faced them and alone he died, however he had a powerful ritual upon him referred to as "The White Legacy" and upon his death the Dark Queen of Evernight was stripped of her memories and was never seen from again. The whole of her armies without her leadership became disorganized and either disbanded or returned to Evernight.
The dracolich Telligrim had sent his agents to Travance in search of the legendary spear Farslayer -- the weapon that had since been reforged after he was slain with it by his own son Nimfear -- in order to restore his life and no longer be bound by the magics of the Obsidian Citadel in Evernight. His mission was ultimately a success. He was able to drain most of the weapons power and free himself of the undeath that he had needed to inflict upon himself in order to survive for so long. Once again he had become whole and living, free to leave his citadel once more.
The Guild of Ostcliff, who had previously worked as a trade guild for the kingdom, was granted the recently reclaimed area of Mordavia by Count Everest on the eastern edge of Travance. The leadership put in place chose to keep their namesake, and rename the land Ostcliff, as the 5th land of Travance.
In 1212, wars began to break out across the globe, as nations turned on each other. Each were given cause to believe the others had started the war, but no one was truly certain who began any of the conflicts, just that someone had attacked them and retaliation was necessary. It was at the end of 1212 that Xualla, the Burning Demon Lord, revealed himself and his true intentions. Xualla, along with his cohort Baalfurous, had staged the wars to usher in the the great war between the Abyss and Arawyn. This war, spanning the course of a year, changed the very face of Arawyn with the destruction wrought by the demons. At the end of 1213, Xualla had been slain, and it was not until 1214 that Baalfurous was cornered and also finally slain.
In the year 1214, a most unusual occurrence transpired. The Gates of Passage held in Travance activated, seemingly of their own accord, and a portal opened up, ushering in several people battered and beaten, screaming and bleeding. Among the elves, orcs, and humans were also gnomes! This was the first reemergence of the gnomes, and they would return once more in 1218.
The world was under extreme duress and threat of extinction by its own creators The Anastazi. In an effort to stop this, the Heroes of Travance enlisted the aid of the one thing its creators seemed most afraid of, the forces of good and evil. The Heroes of Travance awoke Fiona from her slumber, and she in turn insisted that the Heroes free her Sister Miranda from her Prison in Myrrinod. Together the greater forces of good and evil helped the Heroes of Travance choose existence as their future. When the deed was done, both returned to their isles of power were currently they reside.
After news of King Aleric's death had finally come to light, many forces started moving to claim the now known vacant seat of power and take control of the kingdom. Many came from outside to lay claim through force, but one who came from within lead the largest force. Lucius Rennick, Duke Edgar Balliol's bastard son who had been masquerading as the Duke, convinced a fair portion of the kingdom and noble court that he had the legitimate right to claim the throne, and demanded it from the Count, who was acting as Warden of the Kingdom. The Count refused this threat, and so Lucius declared war, and with the aid of his supporters within the kingdom and those from Gaaldron, he attacked.
At his trial, Duke Balliol was found guilty of treason and faced execution. Unbeknownst to everyone, when he was in power, he had secured the service of a djinn, and was granted 3 wishes. In the final moments of his trial, he made his last wish, escaping his punishment and securing the position of what would now become his new empire.
While no further outward expansion was being worked on, the Kingdom looked inward at the order of Travance. The lands formerly tied directly to the Baron's estate -- Valdalis Crossroads, Illenvard, and Stonefall -- were renegotiated to fall under the purview of new leadership in the form of the newly appointed Lady of what that territory would become. Thus, the land of Albriar was founded, leaving only the Barony Proper to be neutral ground between the lands of the whole Barony.
The year 1220 was both special and surprisingly welcome. For so long had constant dire threats reared their ugly heads one after another after another; but in the year 1220 that stopped. The threats were different, more manageable by fewer heroes, less connected to the health of the world, more often mundane. Was this the beginning of peace?
