General Physical Condition

Bertulf is muscular, fit, and healthy.

Facial Features

Bertulf's death deformed him, in particular his face. He has an asymmetrically distended jaw, a twisted skull, and a lolling tongue that resembles a dog's.

Apparel & Accessories

Bertulf wears wolfskins on his armor, wears wolfskin boots, and a bearskin girdle. Hanging from his neck is the shrunken head of his old boss. Since his ouster, he's added two hooks - one for each Bürkli.

Personal history

Bertulf was born into the Bloodmaw Clan, a farming family known for its outsized contribution to the Balatar of Port Hugo. He was raised in their martial traditions, and hunted far more meat than he ever farmed growing up.   Bertulf's Becoming was brutal, violent, and bloody. He had the time of his life. They were sent to hunt down a fugitive murderer, and none could say for sure who caused more destruction along the way, the fleeing quarry or the band of pursuers.   Bertulf's rise to Sheriff of Port Hugo was similarly brutish. He was caught mugging a fisherman and fought off two deputies. The Sheriff of the time gave him the choice of joining up as a deputy himself or going to the gallows on trumped-up charges. He lasted about four years before ambition got the better of him and he challenged his predecessor to a duel for leadership of the guard. He won, and to this day wears Sheriff Bertrand Goen's shrunken head as an amulet. He set about ousting the old families of Port Hugo and replacing them with new ones, thinking that such political dependents would never betray him.   A few years later, Oskar and Midja Bürkli convinced Beath Grunder to give his job to Midja, and send him to the gallows. Instead of submitting to justice, he fled into the wilderness and took up banditry.   Bertulf was slain by the Hometown Heroes, and subsequently raised as a Death Knight by Suc'mor the Griefless. Suc'mor created him with the intention of eliminating enemy agents without implicating himself.

Sexuality

Bertulf isn't shy about his "love them and leave them" attitude towards most women, though he would give up everything for Mylixe Foxhollow if she allowed it.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Bertulf's record for successful manhunts will likely be forever unbroken, owing in large part to his special breed of [Larghe. He introduced a captive warg as a breeding stud and the resultant hybrid strain is savage and monstrous, but also very intelligent.

Bertulf seethes with rage about his ouster.   Bertulf vividly misremembers his death as a horrifying betrayal by his lover, Mylixe Foxhollow and an unprovoked ambush by the Hometown Heroes.
