You know magic is alive, though secret, but where are the ones who have been born with it, enchanted by it, and have lived their lives surrounded by it? You can find them in the secret cave systems of the Undercity. All the elves, orcs, tieflings, everyone leaves their masks and secret identities behind and live their lives as freely as one can in a dark and misty cave. The Undercity is made up of large cave systems carved by their inhabitants, and there are vast tunnels that connect all of these individual caves. There are certain districts where people live, party, or do disreputable business. The Undercity is famous for the unlawful dealings which, one might not feel comfortable doing above ground. There are secret entrances throughout the city, and the inhabitants wait for the day that they, too, can live above ground.
Government
Two main groups have defacto control over the undercity.
The Golden Scarabs
and the
The Arcing Cod.
The Scarabs occupy the
The Djinshao Wastes using a much more egalitarian and triaged form of control, and being headed by
The Scarab Lord they belive that there should be no ruler to the Crescent city, that the sand should be returned to its own, total destruction and chaos.
In opposition to that, the
The Arcing Cod. A humanitarian effort in the undercity. Occupying the
The Al-hest Springs they move throughout the Undercity trying to fix as many problems as they can. Their organization is headed up by
Margaster, a very interesting choice for a ruler.
Gang Relations
Despite their total opposition in beliefs, the two governing groups co-exist very well. Both of them recognize that the real enemy is the Government of the Monarchy which is keeping them oppressed and not each other. Some businesses will ally with one group for protection or convenience, however that does not make them a target, just sometimes restricts their clientele.
Entrances to the Undercity
There are lots of entrances to the undercity, if anyone digs far enough down in a part of the city atop a cave or tunnel: boom, new entrance. Some entrances are more publicly known and more frequently used.
The Grand Bazaar Entrance
The main entrance of the Undercity, the one every member of the community is aware of, is in the Grand Bazaar. Tucked behind the rows of spices lies the wooden door that opens up to a whole new world downstairs. Mosolite Nazif owns the spice shop, where he set up a major smuggling ring, connecting the two sides of the city with each other, and profiting from each trade. For a hefty fee, one can use this door which leads directly to the middle of the busiest district of the Undercity. Also, the fee guarantees you a safe passage; the same cannot be said for the other entrances.
Valens Aqueduct
Most people know of this entrance, although few can actually use it. The secret is to know the code that you must press into the bricks to open entrance. Following this entrance very quickly leads you to
The Great Divide a very popular bar. Further on are speakeasies and drug dealers of all kinds. This path is most frequently used by rich people who want to dabble in the culture of the Undercity for an evening and then quickly return to the life of stars and guards. Traveling all the way down to the Undercity via this path unprepared is ill advised.
At exactly 4 in the afternoon the shadow of the Theodosius Obelisk points to an alley where a path to the Undercity lies. It is guarded by a seemingly old man, you must convince him or give him a gift and then he will point you to the door. Entrance is impossible until he shows you the door.
