Zimnakraj

The Kingdom of Zimnakraj is one of the oldest human states in the world. Once a beligerent and expansive kingdom, it stands in the place of what was once the greatest dwarven realm of all. Already in decline, the ancestors of the Zimnak people fought many wars against the dwarves.
The Zimnak Capital of Duza was founded some 1500 years ago along the Zielona river. It was founded by migratory ancestors of the Zimnak peoples stemming from the far east. The kingdom slowly expanded into the surrounding lands. In the early days of Zimnakraj, the then powerful dwarven kingdoms of Estomi fought many wars in an attempt to push back the human expansion. It is said that the first King of Zimnakraj: Bazyli the Conquerer, struck a deal with the Elves of Uainmor, and with their help, sank the ancient dwarven capital, supposedly creating the Sweet Sea.
Zimnakraj has mainly been quite a stable kingdom. It was at peace with the Elves to their south, and fought rare wars with the Dwarven remnant to the west. Its main struggle was keeping their eastern border secure, but Asterian Scholars know precious little about the far east of the known world. The eastern border of Zimnakraj is plagued by Orc raids.
Zimnakraj used to exert control over the northern land of Freomearc. It is said that giants, which still roam Freomearc, united under one ruler, and attacked Zimnakraj. The giants were unstoppable and it seemed that Zimnakraj might fall. The Król dynasty once again looked to the elves for their aid, and together with the elves the land bridge connecting Freomearc to Estomi was destroyed.
The great rule of Stefan XI is coming to an end, and history is looking to repeat itself. The sea of Freomearc has frozen over nearly every winter, and giant incursions have become a rising problem once again. The second son of the King, Artald of Duza, was infamously disinherited after voicing his dismay at not being in line to the throne. In a fearful reaction, his father disowned him, and pushed Artald away from his family. Where Artald is today, is unknown.
The Crown Prince Aleksandr mourns his brothers estrangement. And though appearing to be capable in his own right, has very large shoes to fill.
